Replace a Rear Spool for a Rear Diff in the EMaxx? A good idea?
Sorry to make a new thread, but:
Would it be worth it to get a rear spool then messing with the diffs? I know I keep changing my mind, but it just popped into my head. Maybe something like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/TRAXXAS-5381X-DI...lenotsupported In this case, I can still use the 3.3 diff housing, and just replace the diffs, with the spool, but with the same cups/housing thing right? |
If you think you have diff problems now, just wait till you get the spool put in...
|
Oh boy.....
So basically the spool would cause.... much more problems? |
Spools basically appeased those who wanted to do wheelies with thier stock emaxx's. Nothing but trouble for me....
|
Alright, thanks guys, guess it's back to the shimming the 3.3 diffs with aluminum housing/cups...
|
With a spool you still should shim the ring+pinion, which iirc was what you were stripping. You're just getting rid of the diff cup and spider gears (and making the truck harder to turn) with a spool. Unless you're running only dirt and like on throttle oversteer, or really like wheelies a spool is not a good idea.

You have quite a few options if you stick with the 3.3 diffs. The 3905 diffs are different and there are no as many companies making parts. Plus you may be able to find some 3.3 cases and cups used, not like they will wear out. |
So, then... I should be looking at the ERevo 3.3 diffs then?
Anyone have a guide for simple shimming? I'm stupid on diffs and whatnot, or just stupid completely. Also, anyone have any used al housings? Overdriven, you have a PM. |
