CRT.5: 3s-3300kV or 2s-4800kV
Picked up Rootar's CRT.5, so now it's time to figure out the proper motor/lipo combo for it.
I ordered a Neu 25c 6s 3900 pack for $92 from flydma, so I will separate it into either 3x 2s or 2x 3s packs. In my shoes would you go with: a) 3x 2s with a Medusa 50-4800 b) 2x 3s with a Medusa 50-3300 In the meantime, I have a CC4600 system sitting around, so I'll throw that in there on 2s until I get my new Neu packs sorted. Thoughts? Thanks! Brian Edit: I will be using a Sidewinder ESC because I already have one. Also, I'm hoping to be racing it on a small local track. |
I would run 3S with 3300kv. I have got this motor in AE B44 with 4S A123 and it's a beast :D
I am not realy sure if SW + Medusa 36-50 is a good idea :/ ET will record peak power around 700W and IMHO it's too much for SW. |
50 x 3300 - It works a treat on 2 / 3 or 4s... One of the most versatile motors... But thats with a MM...
|
I had my 50/2200 medusa on 4S on a SW and it was great. Always super cool too. I would figure 800-900W, so its a bit on the edge for 3S (I would prolly do it tho) but not good for 2S. Pack would be a bit big for racing.
How long are the mains? You should get 10 min on the 2S pack. 3S I would think easily 15+. |
+1 to the 3s 3300, same setup I'm running.
|
id think about how usefull the packs would be in other cars, do you need (3) 2s packs or would (2) 3s packs be more usefull, because on a small track either motor on 2s would work (4800 on 2s would be faster of course) but if your bashing or playing on a big track the 3s setup geared for 40-45 is just nasty fast....
id go with the 3s setup and gear around 35 for a small track.the extra weight would not be a big deal and the tray on it is 150x50. |
You guys make really good points.
I was thinking that runtime would be better if I had (3) 2s packs, but that doesn't make sense because it's all still the same amount of cells. The overall runtime should be the same if it's geared for the same speed. Actually it should be better with 3s geared lower because it's more efficient. One reason I considered 2s is for the sake of the poor Sidewinder. If I go 3s, won't I have to install a CCBEC? If I go with 3s, then I could use those packs in the Losi 2.2 crawler when it finally comes out. Thanks again for your help. |
You could run an external BEC with your Sidewinder if you wanted. It would relieve the stress from the internal BEC and it would run a little cooler, I'd say it's your call.

My vote is for the 3s 3300 set up...I run that w/my crt.5 and it runs great!
|
I run the new medusa 50mm 4800kv and HIGHLY recommend!! It's prefect on 2s doesn't stress at all and is perfect in these 1/12 truggies....
PS a 2s 5000 will run as long as a 3s 3400mAH and it won't be any more effecient, these little trucks even racing don't push it hard enough. If you were going 4s, now that would make a difference, but then you would need some really low kv motor to hold up. Keep in mind you should be able to fit a 2s 6000-8000 pack if you wanted and since a 3s packs is larger in size and weight you can go w/ a bigger pack sticking w/ 2s and like you said a sidwinder esc is pretty attractive. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xCJlp...e=channel_page |
stum, that is definitely an attractive solution, but I already ordered a new 3300kV V2. :-)
I also picked up an MMM from skellyo so I can move the MM/UBEC from my 1/8 buggy into the CRT.5 for a little more headroom over the Sidewinder. Thanks again for all your help/suggestions! |
I got the CRT.5 in the mail today, which is incredibly fast because I wasn't expecting it until Tuesday at the earliest. (Thanks Ross!)
I threw the Sidewinder/CC4600 in there with a 12T pinion and a 2s TRC 8k pack, and I was thoroughly impressed! I played with it for about 20 minutes (wot through grass and woodchips, hill-climbing, street runs), and the motor temped at 115F and the esc at 118F. Surprising to say the least! I am highly impressed with this little truggy. It is in excellent condition and runs even better than I anticipated. Now I really can't wait for my 3s/Medusa 3300kV/MM combo. :-) I can't wait to get this puppy out on the track. Gooooooooooood times! |
you made a great choice i love my 3300kv on 2s and on 3s it is just a beast. Good luck with the crt.5 it is a great little ride for anything. Track use, Street use, Bashing etc. Great little truggy one of my favorite cars.
|
I took it to the track today with the Sidewinder/CC4600 in it. I ran 2s geared 12/46. I am really happy with how it performs on the track. It was even easier to drive than my 1/8 buggy.
The only hiccup was when the Sidewinder came out of its case and knocked a small component loose from the circuit board. That's no big deal though because the MM will be replacing it anyway. |
haha told you it wasnt even fair to run it with 1/10ths, glad you like it its an awesome little truck.
