savage ss
i have the .46 and would like to know if anyone could tell me what side rails to get or where to look. dont want to buy the truckzilla kit if i already have the motor. thanks for your time
if u wanna go fast, sell that .46 motor and get either a LRP .30 or a picco .28. both of those motors will easily outperform the .46. also, the .46 motor runs hot, has issues with blowing apart even when not running hot, and is doesn't tune well.
do you have to extend the frame rails for either one of these motors?
no you do not. they are a direct drop-in. they mount exactly like the stock engine. i would recommend the LRP .30 over the picco in your case. the LRP makes just as much power with a little less RPMs than the picco, but the LRP engines do not have air leaks that have to be sealed like the picco engines. they also have very nice carburators and are super easy to tune. i would get the LRP as well if i had to choose between the two. the picco is more for very experienced tuners that don't mind chasing a tune for half a gallon of fuel.

thanks alot

which is better motor the lrp .30 or the xl 5.9 i can trade the .46 for a new 5.9 motor thanks for your help
the 5.9 motor is a hunk of junk. they are horrible motors. they run hot. they are tough to tune. they don't make good power. they have bad bearings. they have too many problems to be worth messing with. if i were you, i would get either the LRP .30 or the hpi f4.6 motor. the f4.6 is currently hpi's fastest motor and when tuned right, they run like a raped ape. the LRP does have a little more torque than the f4.6, but the f4.6 makes a little more RPMs and is still easy to tune. the LRP has a tendency to ruin diffs and transmissions. the f4.6 motor has about the max amount of power i would put into a savage. i wouldn't get a LRP unless i had a savage xl with oversized tires. before i converted my savage to brushless, my f4.6 motor was my favorite. i am actually going to sell it soon so i can get a better esc for my savage though. i plan on selling all of the nitro components from my truck including the exhaust system, the fuel tank, the clutch bell assembly, the motor mount, and anything i took off the truck when i converted to brushless.
