flightpower EON X30's.... ?
hey guys, i have just discovered for myself the 'EON X 30' series of flightpowers. These things are awesome on paper, has anyone tried them?
They really interested me because of the high charging rates, 5C, that's with the A123's... They look like they have one of the highest voltage holding capability of high end lipo's out there too, 3.5volts for 30C, and 3.7volts for 15C. Who sells these, and how much? I might get a set of these; maybe 2 5000mah 3s packs. |
You can contact Chuck over at BVM jets and talk to him about the packs. He has run most everything high end and checks and logs all of the battery info. I am sure he has used these, and possibly the 40c tp cells to by now... Really friendly guy, goes by Mac8 on rcgroups.

FP stays with Enerland after Hyperion left. FP's EON are Enerland "V2" cells, reads very nice, wish they are flaw free for long term IR.
|
okay, cool. So can anyone compare first hand the EON X packs and the TP 40C packs?
Can you charge the TP packs at 5C? Are the cells in the TP packs Enerland V2's as well? |

Just some experience that not 100% satisfactory. Could due to my bad luck, but some readings from FE(fast electric) boat forums make me feel not too lonely.

Okay, what cells do the ThunderPower packs use?
|
They vary.
TP used Enerland and cells from some Chinese manufacturers. Their amazing new ProPower 40C series are clearly not from Korea. |
So does anyone even know what cells the TP packs use then? Enerland?
Man oh man, if only these cells were down to the cost of A123 cells, they would be the shiznit for full scale electric cars... in particular, my ultra light electric car concept. Only need 60kg of pack and you have 240kW (320hp), beauty. :yipi: I am seriously considering either the EON X30 packs or the TP 40C... so any and all info you know is appreciated man. thanks. |
Although, for your typical MT, you probably aren't going to tell the difference between the two as far as performance... the only question is, quality?
|
C rating doesn't matter too much for a full scale car, imagine a wild drive that last only two minutes for 30C discharge and then you have too pull your loved EP car home?
|
Well of course, but efficiency man, efficiency! You need the voltage to stay nominal, smaller lighter motor can be used, smaller lighter battery can be used (if a hybrid setup is used), you get to a point where battery pack cooling/heating is not important (shedding weight again) and overall well -to -wheels efficiency is higher with higher performance cells. trust me, C rating matters.
|
That's true, Higher C rated cells have nothing bad except their price(as high as 6 times higher than consumer grade 2C cells) , weight, energy density and cycle life.
|
Wow. Just found these cells and was going to make a new thread, but I found one..
These aren't a new enerland cell, are they? 3.7V typical voltage per cell under load Over 3.5V per cell for the majority of a 30C continuous cycle Unnoticeable degradation of capacity or performance over 100 cycles 15C curve tailored nearly dead-flat with 60C bursts on demand for a completely new precision feel in a high performance model Exceptionally low internal resistance for cool running Upto 5C fast charge performance Any prices on these? |
That's what I want to know... I have not kept up on battery development for a few months and just the last couple weeks I have learned of all these new battery tech's... truly impressive performance. All this means to me is that I am no longer an A123 enthusiast for RC... and only RC. A123's are better for everything else (all around).
I was going to get some EON X30's, but couldn't find any sources... then some Turnigy's.... now it's some new hyperion packs (either the 25C or the 35C) for a decent buck too. 5C charging, flat discharge curve(or so they say) and 4x cycle life as well. |
