Hobby City Marine ESC question
I am thinking about converting my Savage to brushless. I would like an affordable esc. I would like to use a Turnigy 80a-HV Marnie esc with an outrunner. If I got the esc and pulled the water cooling thing off the top and added a heatsink would it be ok to use in my Savage? Here are some links to the motor and esc.

It'll work but you'll need a bigger heatsink.
Ok do you know of a heatsink that will work?
Don't marine ESCs have a different style of braking? I suppose it wouldn't matter if using mechanical brakes...
And yeah, a different heatsink would be required. As far as exactly what heatsink to use, you'll probably need to mod something. Here's a decent site with some fairly cheap heatsinks: http://www.allelectronics.com/make-a...t-Sinks/1.html By "HV" what are you talking about? 6s? 10s? |
HV is 5-12 lipo.
Here is a site that is all heatsinks. Could someone help me fine the right one? http://www.aavidthermalloy.com/cgi-b...Anchor&pkg=All
It's gonna be hard to say what will work until the heatshrink is pulled off and the available flat area is measured.
So I should get a big heatsink and cut it to the right size then, right?
Depends. Cutting heatsinks is difficult to do while making it look nice. I would see what the ESC looks like under the wrapper before you buy any heatsinks. Maybe there aren't any flat spots to mount to (that would suck).
Honestly, I would just play it safe and get a car ESC. Too bad there are no affordable HV ESCs out that I know of. The HW150 @ 6s is probably the best bet, but for a few dollars more, you can get a MMM... |
I have a MMM in my E-Maxx, but I wanted to be able to run more than 6s lipo. I know the motor that I posted a link to before is to much KV to run 7s or 8s, but there are lots of motors on HC.
Maybe I will just get a Plane esc. I found a PiStix on Offshoreelectrics.com for $17.
You can do that for the hardware is same as Hobbywing's Ezrun car ESCs. Software is the problem, marine version has far less adjustability than car version, no chance to fine tune your brake force, drag brake, throttle response, punch control .......
i may be missing something here but why not just get lutach's 10S esc???
I think I will try this esc-http://cgi.ebay.com/New-RC-Hobbies-E...3%3A1|294%3A30
It says it can have brakes and reverse, and its only $24, so If it sucks I won't loose much money. |
