Size of MMM without case?
Not sure if im the right section but hey, Does anyone have a picture of the MMM without its case? or know the dimensions of it. I need to fit one in a location with not a lot of height clearance. Im not fussed about the fan I can mount this elsewhere or on its side.

Sorry that I don't have anything beside it to compare the size to but maybe you can estimate by looking at the 10 AWG wires sticking out of it.

umm... that picture is a mamba max MM not mamba monster MMM

No, it's the MMM. The MM has all the wires on one side, has a USB connector, a green heatsink, is smaller, has smaller caps, smaller wires, no switching BEC, and the layers are closer to the same size.

It looks nice without a fan don't you think? :mdr: I wonder if there's a huge heat sink that fits on top of the MMM's heat sink that could dissipate heat enough to eliminate the use of the fan.

Woudl be easier to remove the existing heatsink and replace it with some form of GPU or CPU heatsink, seen that done on a few quarks before :yes:

I don't know all the intricacies that go in making a passive heatsink but that doesn't stop me of trying to think of what might work for the MMM ESC. Opinions of someone who knows a lot about heatsinks would be welcomed. I made this with the eMachine Shop software. The base is 2.5 mm thick and it is roughly the same size as the MMM's heatsink at 30 mm by 40 mm. (not exact measurements 'cause I didn't feel like opening my MMM, I just went by eye) What is better between an aluminum heatsink and a copper one?

Um, I would be very careful what you plan to attaching to the ESC. Let's not forget that the heatsink is epoxied to the FET case, and it the heatsink weighs too much, it could literally tear the FETs off the board when running. If a super large heatsink is what you're after, I would fab some way of securing the heatsink to the entire ESC case. But really, if you need a heatsink that big to control temps, you are either using the wrong ESC for the application, or something is wrong.

I agree, copper is a better at disapating heat but its also heavier, fact is the MMM (from what i hear) works very well, there is no need to try and improve on Castles design. If its overheating in stock form there is a problem elsewhere.

My MMM doesn't over heat, I'm just wondering if it can be run safely without a fan with a better performing heatsink. The one pictured is just something I did for the fun of it, it could probably be a lot smaller. But like it was said, if the stock heatsink is epoxied on the board, it might not be worth the effort, or risk to try and take it off to put a different heatsink.
