12s ESC's for cars?

Got this crazy idea, i'm building up my 6S lipo trays (well they are finished).
I think my 2200kv Medusa is a bit too much with 6S, so id need new motor anyway.
So why not making it 12S, as im using two 2650mah 30C 6S packs in parrell, so id need to make just new adapter for batterys and im ready to go 12S.
So what are ESC's that could handle it, it wont draw much current thought, but id like to have brakes and also reverse and not to use mechanical brakes.

Not many choices with 12s.

One would be this one from MGM

Thats little expensive...
Does anyone have experience with Turnigy K-Force esc's? Does those have brake and reverse?

MetalMan 05.31.2009 02:59 PM

No, they don't. Airplane ESCs don't have proportional brakes or reverse. There are very few car ESCs that can support 12s lipo, due to the cost to make them and the limited number of people willing to pay the high price for them.

By far the least expensive way to go is mechanical brakes and no reverse. The HV-110 is quite possibly one of the smoothest airplane ESCs out there, it runs the Medusa 36-80-1100 on 10s 3700mah Lipo in my 1/7 buggy VERY smooth, almost as smooth as the MMM in other cars of mine. The mechanical brakes are nice too because I can set the rear bias to swing the rear end.

How about marine esc's turning those to air cooled esc's?

What's_nitro? 05.31.2009 08:44 PM

I don't think marine ESC's have acceptable brakes either... Otherwise, good idea.

Does Lutach have a 12s esc? (pardon me if I spelt your name wrong )

What's_nitro? 05.31.2009 10:36 PM

No, his is "only" 10s. :oh:

Been running 12S in my vehicles for quite a while now.. 12S Car capable ESCs are just expensive... you have the shulze, kontronik, MGM, and some others... I've been keeping mechanical brakes and just using Cheap $100 ESCs.. seems to work great for me... but This year, I've been cutting everything down to just 6-8S... 12S is just too insane to run... unless you're setting some speed records like JzeMaxx and some other crazy guys.... The Cheap hobbywing escs are pretty darn smooth for the $100 price tag...

I will be running 2 of the turnigy force hv escs in the baja 5b conversion... Hope they do well. I plan to use mech brakes, and not have reverse... I like reverse though. If someone brings out some potent 12s car escs I will swap to them for reverse. Although mech brakes on heavy vehicles is a good idea. I can mix mech and elc brakes with the m11 so that is cool too. I may even be able to switch off the mech brakes and use reverse, will have to see if I can assign that feature to the radio...

I still haven't bought any of those K-Force ESCs yet.. but I'm sure they're better than the older model... what motor you plan on using for the 5B, and batteries?...

BrianG 06.01.2009 12:33 AM

IMO, it would be a really neat feature to have some of these cheap HV ESCs be able to be slaved to a "master" ESC. That way, the outputs could be paralleled to increase current capability.

I plan to use 2 1521 2y motors, and most likely 10s. I have enough fp 5000 25c cells to do 10s (I actually have enough to do 15s all matched). 10s with the gearing I have will do 50mph according to the calc, so that should be plenty for me. Need to spend some more time on the baja, other projects seem to be overtaking it.

emaxxnitro 06.03.2009 04:13 PM

yes, the jives have a car mode. no reverse
