Zippy's discontinued

You might have seen the new Turnigy lipo's at hobbycity, well they're the replacement for the Zippy packs!

Let's hope all the people that ordered a zippy and are in the -200 backorder lines will still get them. ;) Since you can stil order them I think they will

Right now, the full range of Zippy packs has not yet been replaced by Turnigy versions, but I think they will in the future.

And a lot of the packs say 15C continuous discharge, but that's wrong.
In this topic on the HC forum, the admin declares there has been a mistake with the printing of the labels, and all 15C-20C turnigy lipo's are actually 20C-30C !
http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/f...ce867z8zccdz14

awesome!

The Turnigy packs look just like the Zippy's, except they have 10AWG leads now, most have no connector (no more redundant 4mm bullets:whistle:), and they have thicker balance connector leads (faster balancing won't be restricted).

TexasSP 06.02.2009 04:49 PM

They also have listed 25c packs.

At only 85 bux for a 25c 5000mah 6s pack I may just give them a try.

Rebelgium 06.02.2009 05:06 PM

Yep, on first sight they seem better than the Zippy's. And cheaper.
The admin says the same, but he does say "only time will tell". Which is 100% true.

rawfuls 06.02.2009 05:10 PM

So, the Turnigy will probably be the exact same as the Zippys? DAMN

I was gonna order some soon!

wallot 06.02.2009 05:27 PM

hmm so far no 30C packs. at least i got 3 5000mah 5S 30C packs for this season :)
next year when brushless racing gets more serious and there is more competition around i plan to move to Hyperion VX packs.

BL-revo 06.02.2009 06:51 PM

how do you get discounts on hobbycity? and how does the points system work?

Frozen72 06.02.2009 06:51 PM

So if the 15C packs are really 20C then the 25C packs should be 30C. Or is the label mistake just for the 15C pack.

The label mistake is only for the 15C packs. You can read it in the link I posted.

Metallover 06.02.2009 07:21 PM

Where did you see the zippy packs are discontinued? And if you did see it, why would they discontinue zippy packs? Maybe the manufacturer couldn't keep up with demand?

suicideneil 06.02.2009 07:36 PM

That wouldnt be a reason to discontinue them though- they'd just be backordered more often... like they normally are.... Besides, isnt Zippy an in-house brand of HobbyCity anyway? Half the time I swear its just different labels on the same cells, all coming from the same factory, just different C ratings depending on the specifc type/model...

blueb8llz 06.02.2009 07:47 PM

geez, i just ordered a 6s 5k flightmax 25c, but has not shipped yet. i wonder if its a good idea to exchange it for the new 5k turnigy 6s 25c's instead. i dont think i should be greedy. the flightmax are proven already. the turnigy maaaay have a chance to be better but what if theyre not.... although i will save $20 also haha.
neh ill wait till others try the comparison

Oops, I just saw I included the wrong link in my topic:rules:
I've edited it now, here's the correct link:

In this topic the admins state the following:
Quote:

As some of you may have noticed our new Turnigy batteries come in a 15-20C variety, but, are selling at the 20-30C price.

We have not made it immediately obvious, however these labels are in fact incorrect and will be updated in the following shipments from the factory. The label should ready 20-30C!

How did this happen?
The cell manufacturer does not make a 15C formular. Though the hobbyking.com purchasing department requested it anyway. Not having a 15C formular the factory simply produced the 20-30C cell and labeled them 15-20C.
Quote:

They are just normal Lipoly cells.
They deliver the said C rate plus more, and are true to their capacity.

They don't have extra added 'wow', they dont have 500x cycle life and cant be charged at silly C rates. They are normal batteries at a good price.

Enjoy.

We wanted to duplicate the entire Flightmax range. Which includes 15C. Then later we were going to drop 15C as 25C and 30C became more affordable.
Quote:

The labels are wrong, they should read 20-30C.
We did not want to try explaining the issue with each product listing because, we thought it would create too many questions. Customers would gossip, email us, ask questions and generally not believe it.
We think it's better to just wait until the current stock sells out then update the listing once the new stock arrives with the correct sticker.

We also did not want to have the label and SKU contradicting each other as this causes confusion in the warehouse as well as may raise complaints when customers receive stock.

I hope that helps clear things up.

Rhino is really awesome stuff. I love those packs! And the good news is, the factory finally came to the party on price. So you will see prices on Rhino dropping soon.

Flightmax will be discontinued soon and replaced with Turnigy. This is purely a cost and factory location based decision.
I feel the Turnigy packs are a little more reliable than the Flightmax. However, only time will tell as the customers are the true judge and jury of products in HobbyKing land.

Quote:

The Turnigy branded products are HK products made to HK specs. That probably explains the cheaper price. When HK sells another brand they have to pay the premium for that products brand name.

You can also write a review for a product. It'll give you a discount code(don't really know how much).
