whos done the 4tec carrier mod to their rustlers?
i heard it adds 1.5 degree rear toe in and makes the rustler handle sooooo much better.
the thing is, can you tell me if i got this correct? from what i know, im suppose to order a 4 tec carrier: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXJK19&P=7 and two flanged bearings size 5x11x4. can someone link me to a set please? the only set i found cost $40 hahah. or is there another way to do this mod? some one says to use teflon washers to use as spacers behind the carrier. is this all i need? |
Bearings:
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...5x11&search=Go You have to use regular (non-flanged) 5x11x4mm bearings. The teflon spacers are to take up the slack that you will get due to the different axle lengths between the Rustler and 4-Tec. If you do this mod I would recommend aluminum carriers for the 4-Tec as the plastic ones you linked are not made to handle the rigors of off-road. I broke my fair share of them before I realized this. |
I agree. Heck, even onroad, one fairly gentle smack into a curb will break the plastic carriers.

yea i hear them plastic ones are super duper weak, but i was still gonna get the plastic ones cus of their price. but after the way you guys said it, shoot, im def. gonna get the aluminum ones.
i was told to use flanged bearings. but i guess i can use normal bearings and just use the teflon washers. do you know what size washer..i think i researched 3mm, but can you confirm that? so will i need two washers on each side..a total of 4 washers? or just one on each side for a total of 2 washers? and if i dont need flanged bearings, then why even buy the normal bearings? doesnt the stock rustler vxl use 5x11x4 size bearings already? |
Yep, the vxl uses 5x11x4 bearings. Get the 5mm id teflon washers to take up the slack. You will see how many you need when you get it assembled. I would put 1 between the hex and the outer bearing, and the rest on the inside. That will help the bearings out, as a bunch or shims on the outside just adds leverage to the bearings.

ive got the 4degree flm tranny mounts and the extra toe in really helps for straightline stability.
