badlands vs. bowties in tall grass... wow
 

I have been doing some eagletree tests with my truck and have discovered, well kind of a big deal.

Have you guys ever ran your truck in taller grass (like 3-4 inches) with badlands on your truck. (top speed cruising) Have you ever done the same with a tire like the bowtie.... have you noticed anything different between the two?

350 watts vs. 700 watts(upwards of 800watts), that's the difference I found! It has to be the ballooning of the tire that makes the badland just glide through the grass with the extra inches added. Even on road gravel, the bowties suck more juice than the badlands on tall grass. The bowtie just doesn't balloon, and has a hard time pushing all that grass out of the way.

I always thought that my runtime was significantly shorter than with the badlands.

Interesting observation! Do you have any other tires to compare with? Like Crimefighters, Road Rages, etc.? Eager minds would like to know :yes:

Sry bro, only got the bowties and badlands, with some LPR crimefighters with no rims yet.

I'll go do it again, same patch of grass, and swap out tires and verify the power levels. The badland eagletree's were taken last year, so things might be different somehow now...

Interesting. I would have guessed to opposite just because the bowties are lighter than the badlands. Cool info to know.

Your test makes sense. If you think about it, the badlands with bigger lugs provides better traction compared to the bowties (or any smaller lugged tires for that matter) on the surface you're running. Since the bowties are slipping too much (therefore slower speed for the truck), you would have to press the trigger harder (compared to running with the badlands) to try and compensate thereby increasing the amount of energy used.

The heavier badlands seem to be more desirable on this type of surface since it provides better traction than the bowties.

This is WOT don't forget George... I'm sure it is simply the ballooning of the tires, it's gotta be. Only thing that makes sense, u know.

The badlands would have a higher top speed as well. It has been raining for the last couple hours, and it looks like it stopped now, so I will go out and take it for an eagletree run.

I just did it today. Un taped Badlands on grassy levees. Some areas near the levee the grass was 4-5 inches tall. My E-Maxx did not have any problems with it.

Okay, okay, before we go any further, I'd just like to say there is actually not much difference. I don't know why my older eagletree data is so much different, I guess the grass MUST have been that much shorter...

First one is a year ago on 7s2p pack, geared for 45mph, the second is bow ties on 7s1p(geared for 45mph), third is same but with badlands.

The first one is pulling only 300 watts WOT, the grass must have been shorter, but it's also faster because the voltage drop on the 7s2p is not near as bad on the 7s1p pack.
The second on bowties is pulling average of 900watts I looks like on closer inspection.
The third on badlands is pulling 800watts on average and is definitely a few mph faster.

But I am not sure that my eagletree is working right anymore... lol I'm seeing things here and there that are just to off to be right.

how interesting. I tried running both badlands and bowties in my rustler...on clay.

Motor and ESC temps here definitely higher with the badlands on. The runtime was down as well. :neutral:

I would think the same logic would apply on tall grass. (3-4 inches? Good Lord, man...where is your mower? :mdr: )

I will say one thing, though:

Run badlands if you're on a budget and can't afford to keep on replacing tires. Those buggers don't wear for crap. :oh: Ran them for a month, think I saw the knobbies go down about 2mm. Geez...

This is the grass in the ditch.... and I've re-tested this whole experiment, the badlands are slightly lower power on taller grass (enough for the truck to be pushing), and tires such as the bowties are better on short grass and everything else...

Badlands DO last forever, I have had mine for 2 years now, and they are just starting to get tears in them from WOT ballooning. I abused those little mothers like there's no tomorrow, and ya, mine are about ~2.5mm worn down at this point, not much considering.
