Hyperion 1210i any good?
Just browsing for a charger, I can't really tell a big difference between some of the hyperion charger Mike sells on the store. The specs are all mixed up it seems...
I was thinking the 1210i, or the 720i, or the 610i. Just want to here your thoughts. |
The 1210i is my primary charger. Paired with two Hyperion LBA10 balancers it offers an amazing charger setup. I wish I had a second one...
I also have a Multiplex LN-5014 (5s, 5amps, 50W max), Duratrax ICE (4s, 8amps, 120W max), and Astroflight 109 (modded for 1-10s A123 or 1-9s Lipo, 8amps, 170W max). The Astroflight rarely is used any more. |
I have 2 of the 1210i chargers and d2 of the 610i charger. I really like hyperion chargers, tough to guess huh!, and the 610I get used daily. I like the built in balancers of the 610i chargers. The 720i is the newest model, I imagine it is just as good as the 610i and offers more features.

Sry, I edited 'can' with 'can't tell a big difference'...
Someone make a decision for me now. either the 1210i or the 720i then I guess... but why does the 720i say 250watts but has 20amp capable and 7s?? So you can charge a great big 20,000mah 3s lipo pack... ? |
I would go the 720 for the 20a charge rate, even though I recently purchased a 1210. For $90 the 1210 was a great price.
|
I am currently using 0720i, loving it!
1210 has no built-in balancer, this is likely to limit its usage. |
Oh okay, no balancer. Well then for 7s capable and 20a charge rate (I still don't know how they are coming up with the power rating... 250watt??)
The 720i it is then, thanks guys. I'll get a 350watt psu to power the thing as well. cheers. |
No built-in balancer isn't the end of the world though, just means you need to have a LBA10 or two handy. Since the 1210i is no longer made, they might be cheaper to buy.
|
250 is the max wattage it can output. So at 7s = 29.4v / 250 = 8.5amps max charge at 7s lipo.
So for 6s lipo you can do the 10amp charge, which would be a 2c charge for a 5000mah lipo. Or 20 amp charge for a 3s 5000 lipo = 4c charge. I think this charge can do up to 5c, IIRC. |
fyi new versions coming out any day now....
http://media.hyperion.hk/dn/eos/ either get the new version or the old one on sale... |
Correct, it should be able to do upto 5c charge rates.
I think Hyperion released the 720i charger in connection with their newest line of lipos that are coming out. They have a 5c charge rate, a newer material which isn't supposed to be affected by the rapid charging. And they are fairly cheap as well, IIRC like $110 for a 5000mah 3s with the 5c charge rate. http://aircraft-world.com/shopexd.asp?id=6229 These actually look decent as well! I have the 720i also, and love it. Just make sure your Power Supply is up to par. I've maxxed out my 12amp cpu supplies trying to charge some larger 4s and 5s packs at a 1c rate. I have a 30amp rivergate now, no problems yet... |
Those lipos look tasty, and the price is pretty good too. Not sure how fast the 610I will charge, think it is 2c max.
|
Nitrostarter, I love you. I was going to get me a couple of those Turnigy 5000mah/3s/25c packs for $42 a piece... screw that noise I'm getting these Hyperion packs.
What cells do they use? They don't use Enerland anymore do they? |
If you look around on that site they have some killer closeout deals on the enerland cell packs. I found one in particular that looked promising, a 6s pack for 90 bucks...
|
I'm ot certain on which cells they use, but I think they ditched Enerlands and are using a different company for these cells with the new composition...
I may order up a couple of these 5C babies and try them on the 720i. I like 10-15 minute charge times!! especially at the track. there's a lot of good packs up on the chopping block from that link. Plenty of good deals on ENERLAND cells... I see the one Linc is eyeing down as well... |
