Novak Ss5800 ?

I just got one of these systems from a fellow forum member (you know who you are:D ). I'm going to run this in my B4 buggy, i've heard they are pretty reliable. I wanted to know if anyone has used this system, if so how do you like it ?.

I ran that system as my first brushless sytem. Not bad at all, (actually fast on 6 or 7 cells on unlimited). The weight of the motor caused me to switch to a Lehner Basic though. Just make sure you get air to the heatsinks of the controller.

lol! me 2! pretty fast system. But nothing compaqred to my warrior/9L. Or USE to compare too.

I've run the SS5800 with the SuperSport ESC in a Team Losi XXX-T MF, Associated TC4, and Associated FT T4, all in racing conditions. For racing at my local track (relatively small, technical track), I prefer the SS5800 over my MGM 8012 / Lehner basic xl4200 combo.

Gear the SS5800 properly by checking Novak's gearing addendum and you should never have a problem.

As a side note, I know I've put my SS ESC through some nasty treatment (un-intentionally, of course :) ) and it's still going well after almost 2 years. The most recent was about 3 months ago during a local trophy race. I use the Nomadio Sensor radio and had a temperature sensor on the heat sink of the SS ESC. The ESC thermalled on the straight after I passed the finish line (thankfully!) and I looked at my radio for the temp - it read 252F. Once it cooled down to 240F the ESC started right back up and I'm still using it today. It got me 2nd in the B-main for modified stadium truck last night :)

RcHippie- I think you will like this system.

Here is the gearing guide.http://www.teamnovak.com/download/in...pecgearing.pdf
Here are the instructions. All your programming information will be here.http://www.teamnovak.com/download/in...port_Instr.pdf
When you get it switch out the Tamiya connectors for Deans connectors.

i would personally go with the new gtb 4.5 setup but have head great things about the ss5800. what kind of speed would you expect fron a 5800 in a st? how about a 4.5?

Although I haven't checked top speed, it's far more than I can use at my track with the SS5800 in my T4 using the Novak recommended gearing (I think it's an 18t pinion with stock spur).
My guess would be high 20s to low 30s, which is more than enough for just about any track with a 2wd truck.
The difference from the SS ESC and the GTB ESC is smoothness. Although the SS is at least "okay", the GTB is so much smoother. It's harder to notice off-road, but much easier to notice in high-traction on-road. You could put either the 4300 or 5800 on the GTB controller, as well, for a less-powerful motor that has smoother response. I have the 5.5 and it's WAY overkill, but when has that ever stopped us? :)

I got an idea who it may be. Let me know what you think of that system. I was wondering about a 42oo on a pede. But not sure if that would be enough.

rchippie 01.27.2006 07:34 PM

COOLHAND you do know who it is :) . He is a very cool dude :) :) . I think it will be the perfect setup for my B4. This is my first 2wd buggy ,the longest straight on my LT is 130 ft. If i can find pics i'll post a link to trhem in this thread.

coolhandcountry 01.27.2006 07:44 PM

Cool. I like pics. 130 ft. That sounds short. I need to get me a 2wd rc. Need to get pede going. Let me know on the novak ss system. With the new gtb out should be able to get better deals now.

rchippie 01.27.2006 07:47 PM

i have never heard of the 4.5 what are the stats like on it compared to the 5.5 i always thought that the 5.5 was overkill cant imagine how fast a 4.5 would be
