Hobbywing 150 Amp ESC into Savage Flux
Could I replace my MMM speedy in the Flux with a Hobbywing 150? I am finding at least locally a high failure rate on the Savage Flux ESC's and mine is starting to show signs such as the fan being on 95% of the run and that's on bone stock gearing with 4s 30C 5000mah packs.
I'm just not that confidient in it's reliability right now and am still waiting a reply from CC on another MMM with an issue I emailed them about some 2-3 wks ago. |

You can definitely replace your MMM with a HW150A. Just don't play around with the timing and punch setting. Leave them on default values. I have my 150A for like 4 days and I am very pleased with it. It runs just lukewarm on my 4.3Kg modded e-savage with a KB457L, 4S lipo 21/58 gearing. Peak current on asphalt was 105A. |
use an air compressor and blow out as much dust/dirt as you can out of the esc. you will be surprised how much crud can build up on the heatsink.

HobbyWing is going to release new 150A ESC for 1/8 scale, the XERUN-150A(now on sale is the EZRUN-150A) with a much smaller footprint and great look.

when is it going to go on sale? do you know how much it will cost? i can get the 150a esc right now for only $100.

TMM16025 into savage flux
Hi,
Anyone has experience with MGM TMM16025. Has ordered one to slapped into my savage flux. I am Hopping that the 160A rating versus Mamba monster 120A rating would made it more reliable. My original flux esc failed after only 20+ run, still waiting for the esc to come back from HPI for almost 2 month. HPI customer service in ASia really sucks |
not surpised on another Savage Flux esc failure
....got a pic? I am collecting pics of burnt MMM speedies I'd go with the Hobbywing 150A in a flux from what I have seen it's been very reliable on the Savage Flux set ups |
Hi,
Sorry no pic. The esc does not die a spectacular death. No smoke, no sound no light , it just stop working suddenly. I have even change the switch to see if the switch is the problem, nothing help it just stop working. |

Hi,
Has tried out the MGM TMM16025 in my flux. It seems to be much smoother than MMM at low speed. After repeated speed run with 4s and 6s on 22t pinion, the temperature of the heat sink seems to be lower than the plastic casing of the mmm when i touched them. Has measured a max continous current of 95 amps with a peak of 205 amps using the internal current sensor. It seems that 16025 would be a good replacement for the mmm in a flux. |

First off you have stated in other threads to be using Harris 5000 30c 4s lipos, and that they are dropping voltage quite a bit. So they are overrated, and also not able to keep up with your flux. 2 fixes, better batteries or lower gearing... Lets examine what happens when the voltage drops. The motor is still asking for the same power, the esc is still feeding the motor, but the batteries are dropping voltage, so the amp requirements are climbing fast. Since watts = volts x amps if you loose voltage you need more current to maintain the same output at the motor. So the increased current draw thru the esc will cause higher temps in the esc. To prove this get some crap nimh packs and see how they heat up your motor and esc, they just cannot keep up with the load, drop voltage, amps spike, voltage drops lower and everything gets hot fast... Get better lipos and you will find esc temps will go down and performance will improve. If your lipos cannot maintain over 3.5v per cell under full load you need better lipos, that is a rule. If you hit the lvc during a run you need less load or better lipos. 4s in a heavy MT is not optimal, go up with the voltage and you can use lesser rated cells, if you really want to. The MMM is prefectly capable of handling 6s, just use decent lipos. And your eagletree most likely samples the voltage much faster than the MMM does, thus you are dropping voltage and recovering faster than the lvc can kick in. I have tested the effectiveness of the MMM's lvc, and it does work. |
Fair enough, I have some Intellect 5000mah 40C Hardcase Lipos now, so will test them this week and upload an eagle tree graph.

i have a 2200kv castle motor connected to a upgraded hobbywing 150a waiting for my flux arrive here for test it...
i say upgraded esc because this baby stop working once and i replace the ubec for a external and better one and put some bigger mosfet´s too!! i have already tried mmm but still continue using my hb150a. i will post results when i test this setup on the flux. regards |
