MaxAmps Green Series Battery

Wow it can handle 404A discharge!!!
You can fast charge it at 101A in 15 min!!!

LOL

I would like to see some discharge graphs... Holding breath... Starting to turn blue... S..t..i..l..l..w..a..i..t..i..n..g

(falls on ground stone dead)

Frozen72 06.24.2009 05:05 PM

Imagine what would happen if it was 100% legit. (I know I'm dreaming...) But what if...

lincpimp 06.24.2009 05:17 PM

Given maxamps recent battery upgrades the specs may be close. They do not discuss voltage drop, which is the bane of a123 cells (unless they are 2p min). I am sure maxamps prices will be way higher than they should be though, that will never change.

I just looked at their site while linked from this thread. The prices for their Traxxas 1/16 VXL packs are absolutely ridiculous!!!!

Here's a small comparison:
MaxAmps 1550mAh 2S 20C pack
$49.99

Hyperion 1600mAh 2S 25C pack
$23.95

MaxAmps 1550mAh 3S 20C pack
$74.99

Hyperion 1600mAh 3S 25C pack
$33.95

Either people buying these packs are just ill informed and moronic enough to believe the hype, or they have an extreme abudance of money to throw away.

Frozen72 06.24.2009 05:36 PM

And then the HobbyCity packs are half the price of the Hyperion packs...

Semi Pro 06.24.2009 05:36 PM

dont mean to be that guy, but isnt this old news, i though we were talking about this 2 weeks ago before the topic got taken away because of the MA haters

Semi Pro 06.24.2009 05:38 PM

also keep in mind its a 470gram 6.6v pack

that means it wouls be a 3lb 21v pack lol, you could run your current packs in 3p and have simalar weights and discharge

zeropointbug 06.24.2009 06:52 PM

Yes, we already discussed this... although 15C is technically possible, or at least A123 Systems released some ~5min charge graphs about a year ago or so... but NO charger out there can do this... I remember I did some quick calcs, and figured it would be just over the limit of one 15amp circuit breaker.

Until they have these chargers developed, which shouldn't take too much engineering know-how... 15C doesn't matter.

And what Linc said, of course A123 cells have alot higher voltage drop than a 30C lipo pack, it's just that A123's can handle it, it's simply a different type of battery chemistry. If Lipo packs were overrated like A123's, they wouldhave positive electrode Lithium metal plating... not good, they go puff, poof.

its amazing people still buy maxamps stuff. I remember when they were cheap and it was like well not the best but a good price. Then they kept going up in price. Now you can get great packs cheaper then there stuff.

$49 is crazy for a mini 2s pack. Wonder how my $13 hobbycity 2200mah 2s compares to theres though.

E-Revonut 06.24.2009 11:50 PM

I've already posted this a few times but.....Those 1550mah 2s packs have sky rocketed with the release of the vxl revo/slash! One year ago I bought mine for about $30-32. Even the 1600mah Nimh have skyrocketed as well, looked at them about 4 months ago and they where about $18-20

lincpimp 06.24.2009 11:54 PM

Supply and demand, when the demand goes up, the supply either dwindles, or the price goes up. At least we know what to buy!

+1 on graphs. words just don't help too much here.

MA need to get themselves clear on basic concepts, they claim
"60C Burst - 2670 surge watts(405 amps) "

My question is: 2670 watts TO THE LOAD ?? :rules: or even half of that number?

zeropointbug 06.25.2009 01:48 AM

Yah, you will never get that to the load (motor)... there is just too much voltage drop for a motor to suck the amps needed.

And what should also be noted, that even if you could charge at 15C rate, you won't be getting 1000+cycles from your pack.

These green packs, or a regular M1 A123 pack for that matter; should be considered a 15C/30C when comparing to your average lipo battery, performance wise. They can still handle the 30/60C ratings just fine however.

himalaya 06.25.2009 02:18 AM

Very true. looks like LiPo and LiFe have different definitions on C ratings ?

Good LiPos perform by holding 90% voltage under full C rated load.

LiFes(A123 and others) seem can just SURVIVE under that C rated current, no matter how much voltage left.
