What is the Proper way to Charge/Discharge Lipo packs
 

Since im new to Lipo several questions have popped into my head as of late. (im sure u can tell because of all the post). Whats the best way to charge and care for you lipo packs? I have read places that you want to cycle the packs when u forst get them, is this true? if so then whats the best way to cycle them?

I don't know about the last generation lipos, but the new 35C, 40C, with 5C charging, they apparently need a 'break-in' period... they say go easy on the throttle, and charge at a lower charge rate for the first ~20 cycles or so. They also decrease in cell Ri over the first ~100 cycles, so that's good news.

For cars and trucks you don't see the kinds of currents like planes and heli's put through their systems on a continuous basis... you should be fine, just buy a pack, use it, and take care of it.

For me I don't charge above 1C for my Lipos. If they are going to be sitting for more than a week without use I discharge them and bring them up to the Lipo "store" setting on my cellpro 10s charger, which is something like 60%.

Storing them around 50% charge is optimal, as more than that can cause a type of corrosion inside the cell. I just charge them up after they cool down, if I plan to use the lipo in the next few days. I always balance charge and take a mental note of the various info after the pack charges. Maybe a log book is a good idea, sit it next to the charger and that will help you see any variations at a glance. Plus if you ever sold the pack you have some solid info for the buyer.
