Losi lst2 problems/ xxl bonuses
I'm now the proud owner of 2 bl LST2 that I converted with another in waiting with a xxl frame.
1st question, is anyone else having problems with bending the upper screws that hold the shocks to the shock tower? I noticed that they seem to bend very easy. I can understand why, those long bolts need to be in double shear to add strength, which I will be working on real soon. 2nd question, any good choices for upgrades in the front and rear bumper department? The little brace that goes behind the bumper and attaches to the plastic bulkhead does not hold up at all. Maybe I can find that little brace made out of aluminum some were? I purchased a XXL diff off of ebay with the front drive shaft included. Well when I opened it up it all ready had the Losi HD diff upgrade in it. Very cool, I'm hoping that all of the XXL diffs come that way, saves you about 8.50 on the Losi upgrade diff kit. FYI Muggy shocks are shorter then lst2 shocks, I didnt know that and purchased brand new muggy shocks off eBay and finally realized I had a problem when I got my second lst2. Any thoughts on running a neu 1521 1d (2900 kv) on 4s in the xxl? I normally run 6s and low kv in such a large truck, but I have "2" 4s flightpowers 4950 25c lipos that are brand new. I'm thinking since the can is bigger on the 1521 it can handle the extra weight of the lst2. I also have a neu 1515H 2.5D (1650 kv) that I can run on 6s flightpower 4950 25c lipo. I like the idea of the 4s just becasue it is a smaller pack and lighter. Finally, what are guys running for wheelie bars? I tried using the wing kit, but found that it really hurts the screws that attach it to the bulkheads and will break the mounting bosses that are on the bottom of the wing risers. |
Losi plastic and screws really suck, I'm having to replace almost every screw in my Muggy because I'm shearing and bending pretty much everything. Stock control arms are garbage, IDK if the RPM arms with the LST2/Muggy adapters will fit the XXL but they are MUCH tougher.
I don't know of any better bumper for it, but I haven't had any issues with mine. The braces are about to crack in half but I may just have to replace them with more stock pieces. That Neu is way too high of a KV, it'll pull some serious amps and everything will run hot. I'd look into a 1Y (around 1,700 KV I think) on 5s. Satttheman has a video of his Muggy with a 1521/1Y on 6s and it's insanely powerful. http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/show...6&postcount=41 I still haven't figured out a good wheelie bar, I just have to avoid jabbing at the throttle until the CD unloads enough power :no: I have sheared heads off of several screws (got pics of the screws on my phone for proof :tongue:) because of using the wing as a wheelie bar. Right now it looks like throttle control is the best and the wing can help but don't rely on it. |

I have one of the lst on a 1521 1y (1500 kv) right now, (6s) it goes like mad. The other lst had a 1515 2.5d (1650 kv) on 6s and it goes like mad too. |
Definitely go to a different motor in the 1500-1700 kv range if a 1521 is what you want and run 5-6s. I run the CC2200 and it pushes it around very well on 6s geared for 50ish however when the new CC 1518 motor is released it will take over duty. I think your 1515 you have is a much better choice and gear it for 40ish.
I haven't had any bumper problems but yest the losi screws are trash. Mine has the Integy shocks on it which I want to replace with the stockers. It came that way and while the integy ones look nice, they are too damn big especially with the reservoirs on them. What are you using for a motor mount and all? |
I think the 1521 1d is better suited to a speed run car, or a gtp or something

so the 1521 1d is out, maybe a e-revo on 4s hehe I'm running TDR motor mount and single speed hub adapter. Works really well and very good customer service. I did buy some of "Tony's" screws for my lst's and will be replace the stock screws as they break. |

Hey Tim, I have bent plenty of those screws on the upper shock mounts. I planned to drill the mount and top bushing out and use something bigger, like a m4 thread screw. Might be over kill, and then the shock towers may break... Dunno, I will give it a try.
The muggy shocks are identical to the lst shocks save for the shock shafts. So you can buy lst shafts and swap them out and you are good to go. The bodies, pistons, cartridges, etc are all identical. |

Thanks for the tip on the shafts. I figured I was out of luck. I will probably start the double shear setup this week at work. |
