Electric X1 CRT ?s
Want to convert my CRT to a brushless set up. I have been out of the sport for a while. Can any one give me some opinions on what batteries speed controller and motor to get for it so it runs a little faster than it does now. Also how does the brakes work on these brushless setups? Also can I run a brushless setup with my regular batteries first then buy lipo down the road. Just started a track in my back yard last night:yes:

A MMM 2200 combo works great. Thats what I ran in my e-CRT. She ran like a champ on 4s and 5s both geared for 40mph.
Brakes all depend on your settings. You can apply different amounts of power and different curves with the MMM. So setting your brakes is a personal preferences. But I can my my 8-T do a end over end if I wanted to. Are you talking about NiMh batteries? If so, I would gear it for around 30mph max otherwise you'll toast them more than likely. I'd definitely get some LiPo's asap. With the prices of Zippy's its hard to beat now. |
How about if I want to go more like 70ish MpH
|
You don't want to go 70+ on NiMh batteries, thats for sure. Invest in LiPo before you decide to do speed runs.
Also, how much money are you willing to spend to go 70mph? A MMM2200 combo can push it to 70mph, but not for long. Whereas you can pump a Neu 1527 in there and 70mph for longer run times. But I will say 70mph gets old fast just going back and forth... LOL |

Well it depends on how many cells you want to run and which motor kv you choose.
There are too many variables that are unknown to say I want to go 70mph. there are many setups possible... |
Get a MMM, neu 1521 1.5d and a 20t pinion. Not sure what tires you plan to run, but the hpi phatline tires hold up ok at those speeds. That combo will give you 70mph. Get some good lipos...

Ok I think I am going with one of these two but which one is better:

IMO those Losi combos will never get you to more than 40 and live to tell about it. There are a few guys running them at my track on their buggies. Now that they have grouped all 1/8th electric together I run my truggy against those buggies. They don't have the torque I have with my Neu and they get lousy run times, they have said the most they can run for a main is 12min, where as I can run 15min main with my truggy. Yes I run 5s, they run 4s but my truggy is also about 2lbs heavier and a lot lore rotating mass, and I still can kick their a$$. I just need more practice.
If you want 70MPH your going to need a Neu, at least 1 1521 in the 1700kv range to be reliable and cool, 6s lipo capable of at least 150A continous discharge and a Mamba Monster esc is most likely your best bet. Questions for you. You just joined this forum, how new to RC are you? How new to brushless? Have you ever seen or driven a RC car at 70MPH? |
Thanks for the input. I have been into RC for 15 years but the past 2 or 3 I have only been running my X1 CTR gas truggy but only about a gallon of fuel through it becaus I get frustrated with the starter box. Never had a brushless got a 12 turn single in my Evader. Never seen a car at 70 just on youtube.

I currently just took out a LRP 28 motor and it is real fast but I want faster if I am going to spend any $
|
Well you may want to skip the 70MPH part then! 50MPH is pretty hairy if you hit a bump and at anything over 40 you might as well forget turning! Also 70MPH will be very expensive! Start with a Mamba Monster combo on 4s Lipo, a solid combo for 40MPH or gear it a bit less for racing and you can still destroy the nitros. Then later if you decide to do speed runs step up to a 6s lipo and a lower kv motor then gear it for crazy speeds.

70mph is blazing fast for a truck or truggy.
Bu yeah, I'd definitely pass on the Losi systems. Not the best. The MMM2200 combo will run paces around the Losi. If you insist on 70mph, you could use the recipe lincpimp suggested and obtain that mph or damn close to it. Just watch your temps as you run. I would invest in a temperature gauge as well. This is a very useful tuning tool. |
Thanks for the info guys I think I will just go with the mamba max 2200kv

Is this the battery I should get I read lots of people talking about these zippys
