momba still not responding well
well i ran out of time and didnt get all the options tried but i maxed out the punch ,no joy. advanced the timing,no joy.and the ESCwent 160 and the motor went 140.Then after my main iincreased the start power and only had 2 laps to try it and it didnt seem better but im not sure maybe a little.still thinkn the 36-50/4800 might have been a better choice but ill try a few more settings and see.

I'm going to guess. You have a Mamba max 5700kv system in a crt .5 running 2s? A medusa motor on 3s would be a better choice. A 2s medusa system would be better then the mamba, but I'd still recommend the 3s system.

Motor temps of 140 are ok, I would not worry too much on that. |
mamba max
it is a mambamax but im trying to run a medusa 36 - 60 /3100 . Ive been trying 2s and 3s.and wile i havent exausted all the settings and ratios yet im less and less optimistic about the viability of the combo any suggestions on how to proceed are welcome thanks

Like Linc said, I'd definately disable the BEC (remove red wire from receiver plug and run external BEC or rx pack) and consider adding a capacitor (availible in the RCM store)/fan. This should lower your esc temperatures.
140 on the motor is a little hot too, but nothing to be too concerned about. You may want consider putting all settings back to stock and see how that is. Are you running bigger tires then stock? |
Ok, what gearing are you trying to run with both 2s and 3s?
Also can you get us a pic of the setup? How much clearance between the fins on the MM and the body? Ay cooling holes cut in the body? Not much room under the shell on a .5, so you may want to add a fan or try to position the MM so that some air can pass over the heatsink. I am having a similar issue with my mini hyper ste. With the esc on top of the center diff it is about 1/2" from the body, and it heats up quick on 2s with a neu 1509 650kv. If I ran 3s I am sure it would thermal due to the increased voltage on the internal bec. I plan to move the esc to on top of the servo, and maybe add a fan (trying not to do this). I also plan to cut a hole in the body to allow some air to get to the esc. The neu has similar temps to you motor, and I am geared for 37mph IIRC. |
more on the mamba
hay Lincpimp, on the external cap are you talking about a glitch buster cap, or something wired to the esc and if your talking about the glitch buster how would i go about incorperating an external BEC with a glitchbuster as i use a transponder and only have one available input port?
|
I am refereing to adding an external cap between the main power wires on the esc. I doubt that will help much to be honest, your setup is not drawing that much current.
You can use a y cable to hook 2 rx wires to one of the rx plugs, pretty straightforward. Are you running 2s or 3s? That would be very helpful to me. Cause the external bec will not do much for heat on 2s, but it will make a big difference on 3s. |
re: lincpimp
i have the rch chassis so my mm sits over the servo and has an inch +. Ive tried a 30 mm novak screwed onto the heat sinl and it seemed ok but only lasted two runs so ill either do the reinforcing strap and set screw fix and try again or hopefuly find a prgraming or gearing / electric patch ie GB or bec to fix it

2s or3 ?
both realy .and i only notice the slightest almost inperseptable diference. Also im just learning to use this damn computer so ill get some help tomrrow and see iff i cant get you some pics
|
Ok. so have you noticed a tamp difference on the esc with 2 and 3s?
Also, what kind of speed are you looking for? If it is 35+ I doubt the motor will like the tall gearing on 2s that would be necessary to get there. Conversely if you are trying to go slow the motor may be under geared on 3s. I need more info, and you really need to stick with one pack for testing, my choice would be the 3s pack, as that motor will not be spinning fast enough on 2s. So tell me what speed you want, and what gearing you have used that seems to give you the speed you like, regardless of the temps. All of this preferably with the 3s pack. |
hay meatlover yes im running a truck sized tire of my own design and they do add exactly four ounces to the truck in the rotational portion of my setup
|
what speed? that is hard for me to say ,i race this truck weekly ,indoors on a track 90 ' by 60' and ive run it mostly on my reedy3s 3200 25c and im looking for drivabilty and enough speed to be competetive with my 10thscale 4wd buddys "what the # is i cant say"
|
Have you got a gearing yet that allows you to be competitive? If so let me know that and your overall tire height and I can figure out the speed.

with my HV novak on three S i ran 13/46 and for an old guy i podium three out of five club races
