this is the first time i have seen this controller. seems like this would be the ticket for a 1/5 conversion on 10s. would this be a good route to go? anyone know much about this controller?

Ryu James 06.29.2009 02:43 AM

ok, i actually found this now. seems this would be better. i know mike is running the 180 hydra on 8s. all the castle charts recommend the 240hv though for use with the 2215 or 2230 neu motor.

so here is what i dont get. what is the difference between the Phoenix HV and the Hydra HV? what is the best for a surface vehicle? or does it matter? should i just get whatever provides the best ampage?

Arct1k 06.29.2009 06:15 AM

Hydra's are setup with water cooling - Pheonix heasink...

Similar construction I would guess with the exception that the ice now has all the logging in it - Software is optimized for different uses.

Running the Hydra reminds me of Fine Design's conversion, LOL. But it would work. The Hydra 240 is a very robust controller. But If I were spending that money, I would shell the $100 more and get a Schultz 40.160(the Poptart). A super reliable controller! however, being in the US makes the customer service suck!

I think the hydra uses mid point for neutral like car based esc's, I could be wrong

Thats correct, thus making them a bit better for the conversion and not requiring a PiStix adaptor.

Ryu James 06.29.2009 01:09 PM

i want to avoid having to use any type of adaptor if possible so it sounds like i want to stay away from the heli-plane controllers. where is a good place to buy one of those schultz controllers. i havent really found anywhere good online yet.

BrianG 06.29.2009 01:11 PM

FYI: The Pistix adaptor is actually quite easy and reliable. One time calibration and that's it. It works and works well. Very small and simple too.

Arct1k 06.29.2009 01:14 PM

Just search around here but the abridged version seems to be: schultz fire - sorry esc run out of spec - money toilet

Yeah, but they do seem to run well when they do run. Just hope that it lasts...

Go to "E - Regler" -> Schulze brushless

But I dunno if he ships international.

There are also newer version rated for more amperage.

The Schultz seems to be the mack-daddy of all reliable esc's in the more stressful enviroment of the boating world. I don't understand why it doesn't hold up in cars... However, the Hydra HV240 is very nice and does come with Castle's legendary customer service.

Ryu James 06.29.2009 06:54 PM

yeah, i am thinking i am just gonna go with the hydra240. i am very familiar with castle products and i trust them completely. they gave me 4 new MMMs when my v2's kept failing. i love the easy programming and love the MMM now. it just seems this will be the easiest route and still offer plenty of performance. the site says the hydra240HV is capable of pushing 16hp. wow!

so i got the truck today and have started modding. please check out my other thread. perhaps you guys can answer some more questions for me.
