Chargers...

Well my hobbico accu cycle just doesn't charge fast enough for my lipos(max of 2A...) so I have been looking into a new one. I have been looking at the hyperion chargers a bit, but to be honest they confuse the hell out of me. I can get away with a lipo specific charger, because I am going to keep the hobbico for the nimh's. My current lipo's are 5400mah, so I could charge them at around 5A, but I would like some headroom. Maybe a charger that does 7-8amps? Thanks for any input guys,

-Matt

Its the Volts X Amps = Power (W) that you have to watch for...

Hyperion 610 / 615 / 720i etc all rock

Chris is right, if you want to charge a 6s lipo at 8amps you need a charger capable of 200watts or more.

There are alot of chargers on the market, usually the sub 100 dollar models are 50-70watt max output. Ok if you are charging 2s-3s 5000mah packs as you can get 5amps out of them at that voltage. If you want to charge 55-6s packs quickly you need a good charger.

I have seen the 610i hyperions sell used on rcgroups for around 120... I almost bought one at that price, but I already have 2...

I've got a 1210i I picked up new, and I love it. I believe holmeshobbies (johnrobholmes on here) is selling one used for $110.

I will check that out, because I like using my blinky balancer. *flame suit on* my packs usually stay in the truck while they charge so it's just easier to use a blinky. So I would need a power supply too then?

roger - out

Any big different between the 1210i and the other chargers? As stated I will be using blinky balancers anyways. Soo my last question, I will need the power supply? What exactly am I looking for? Linc told me a computer power supply will work, what specs do I need? As you can tell I am a bit of a noob to chargers.

Arct1k 07.07.2009 03:56 PM

Roger = Yes you will need a PSU.

You want something with a good PC supply 20amp 12v single rail... modding a PC power supply is pretty easy - i did it :)

$40

I still think a decent sm psu rated at 144w 20-30v ~7a works great, its what I use and I can run 2 3s packs on a 610i duo, with next to no sag costs like 40$ shipped on ebay and just need a for + nad -.

Hers one for folks who need lots o powa http://cgi.ebay.com/Mean-Well-SE-600...3A3%7C294%3A50

wow theres a lot more power supplies on there now that are 24v 3a-25A just do an ebay searh for power supplies and look for ones that like the one above, especially if you get a hyperion charger I think most of them can run from 12v-28v, I run mine at 26.6V and i have no problems.

I got some questions about that charger:
- Is it able to work on 12V and 220V?
- Does it have a charge limit? (mAh) Because my current charger can only charge LiPo's which have 5000mAh or less, that sucks...

Thanks

The hyperion models that have a built in AC/DC converter are limited to 50w i.e. slow charging for a 4s 5k pack...

The DC ones are 180-250w+ depending on model
