New Short Course Truck - Losi Strike
|
Just getting ready to post this. You beat me to it.
So it looks like its based off a high roller. It shows they also show a BND(Bind-N-Drive_ model. Looks to be something new for Losi. It just includes the 2.4 Spektrum receiver and no transmitter for 199.99. That seems like a cool new options to save a few bucks if you already have a Spektrum radio. Should be interesting to see how good it works. I like the mid mounted motor though. |
I can't believe they opted for the more ground clearance and less agile chassis like the slash. I was expecting another lower COG chassis like the SC10 comes with. Looks nice tho! And I love the option to buy it bind and drive. That makes life simple and less wasteful. I hate having 10+ stock AM radio's sitting in a pile.
|
I like the bind and drive idea. Also like that it uses 12mm hexes all around. Not sure if I like the chassis though. I will probably stick with my sc10 even though I usually am a losi guy.
Really wanted a stretched xxxt. |
The car is ehh... but I really like the BND concept. I run a Assan 2.4ghz module and extra receivers are only $25 so it really doesn't matter to me but it's still a good idea on Losi's part.
|
I like this but the issue is the local clubs have all adopted stock slash - they don't allow ANYTHING else to race with them...
This would be no exception - which makes it sadly almost dead to start with... |
I think i'm going to go with with the sc10. I am also usually a losi guy but I don't like the trans being mid chassis and the highroller chassis. SC10's low COG is perfect for my type of racing.
|
Looks okay- as everyone's said lower COG would have been nice. Chris- maybe they made it higher COG because they know slash has dominated SC racing and this was designed to be a basher. If a class does come of this (I know there's a any 1/10 SC truck class at my local track) mfgs will start making low CG chassis' for this to make them more raceable, hopefully.
|
I like it actually. Looks like a durable truck in the same vein as the Slash, but at a better list price and a spektrum Tx/rx with some better parts and construction. Associated are nice, but they are too fragile IMO and the SC10 just seems like a done over T4 rather a truck in the spirit of fender-rubbing short off-road course truck. 4/5.

Perhaps that's why they went w/ a high chassis? Least make it close to a Slash rather than a low COG stadium truck w. a CORR body and bumpers. At some point you would think that people will want some options and variety in trucks w/o something being obviously unfair. TRX will have pulled of a helluva thing if they have managed to completely monopolize a popular and growing race division. |
If it is as strong as the slash I think this would be a fun truck to have.. I like the mid mount motor.. I had an SC10 it is more of a racer but for reason I just didn't like it.. I liked my slash more.. This will be on the list of to buys in the near future..

ding ding ding!
losi wins, thats hands down the ugliest body i have seen so far on a side note, i do love how all the losi stuff is starting to come with spektrum radios |
 That body is pretty hideous.

http://radiocontrolzone.com/showthread.php?t=256037 post 24, I pedicted what it would be :na:. To be serious, I noticed the mid low mounted motor, that high-mounted motor killed the highroller for me. Now there is an option for us racers that like the highrollers, both the HR and the stampede
|
Horizon (Losi's Distributor) has been doing the Bind-N-Fly for the aircraft guys for awhile now, nice to see it trickle down to us.
I think they were smart making it a higher CG, as "Slash only" tracks would be more likely to let them in. Depending on lap times of course. A thing to rememeber, the slash classes were formed with the intent of making an "affordable, level playing field" type of racing. And I'd think most tracks are like my local track with one "stock" slash class, no mod classes. The Strike looks like it was designed to fit right into that style of racing (it even has a 12T 550 motor), whereas the sc10 basically tried to redefine it. Associated tried the "natural progression" of racing approach, and to blow the Slash out of the water in the process, and I can't blame them. But the sc10 belongs in the mod classes, which is its major flaw. What Associated really needed, and was probably hoping for, was someone else like Losi to come out with a similar low cg truck to race against. Another similar low cg truck from another mfg would've help change the CORR truck racing scene, probably pushing the Slash out in the process. But until then they are stuck playing by themselves in their own sandbox. |
