MMM to hot?
hey guys i was running my hb d8e today with my mmm 2200kv combo on 4s.And it seemed hot on my temp gun 167.i am running 14/46 i think (i'll check in a little bit).so if this is to hot please tell me and i'll try to figure out the problem.Thanks.

that is not that hot, mine has got to 215 after 15 min mains, i cant believe it didnt thermal, but its thermally protected so no damage will occur
|
your fan seem to be died :surprised:guy's<< reach those temp isnt normal..on these esc:yes:
open your body and check your fan:rules: |
215*F on the esc? Im amazed it isnt charcoal...
167*F on the esc is rather hot, shouldnt be exceding about 140-150 ideally, but it depends on the conditions and ambient temps etc. Motor shouldnt excede 180*F. |
no no no i must have miss lead u guys the motor gets up to 167.but now since i mowed my track because the grass grows insane it ran at 160.
|
my v2 has hit 190F
|
Oh right. 167 on the motor isnt too bad, if thats at the end of the run and not after a few minutes into it. Over heating the esc repeatedly will greatly shorten its lifespan.

My MMM gets the fan going 5 minutes into the run, pretty much no matter what with the 2650 motor. This is why I am switching over to a 1900 kv motor and 6s. 4s for racing.

If the motor has ever gotten around 200 or over for any amount of time then it could be on a downward spiral of death. The magnets start to demagnatize and the windings get damaged too. You'll see higher temps with all your electronics and then something will eventually fry.

cut the head off the monster???
no fan!!?? i can see the reasoning behind this but still...215 is crazy! |
yea that was with the tekin 2650 motor, must have been on the brink of thermaling, since i bought the truggy 2250 motor, being a bigger motor its not working as hard and now after 15 mins im running at around 160 or so, much more acceptable

What are the usual suspects when tracking down ESC Heat problems? Wires, connectors, etc? I'm slowly trying to fix an HV4.5 Pro system - fan runs fine, motor is cool, running it on a 4S 4150 Zippy in an old Emaxx. Gearing is now 14/63. Battery is cool, motor is just warm, and wires/connectors are cool, but ESC is hot.

Sounds like its geared too tall- the lipos arent hot because they can deliver the juice needed, the motor isnt not because.. over geared motors dont overheat (the load is enough to make the motor work but not enough top make it draw crazy currents?.. something like that anyway), but the esc is the conduit for the current and it is getting toasty.
According to Novak, you shouldnt be geared any higher than about 12-14/68 with the any of the hvmaxx systems- the hotter the motor the lower the gearing should be/ start at. (12/68 is 45mph with the new emaxx, 42mph with the old emaxx). The esc just cant handle the current (its rated for 400amps, but in reality its more like 70amps or so... where is GriffinRu these days anyway?...) draw of the hotter motors, even if the motor and lipos can. :/ |

He started at 17.63, and both motor and ESC were hot. I gave him a pack of my pinions to try since they are the easy ones to change. I'll likely have him up the spur to 68 or 70. I think I ran 70 or 72 on mine with the 4.5. Hmmm...now that I say that - he was running my old 4.5 system while his was in for repairs and didnt have any issues with heat on 17/63 - must be some different stuff happening in the Pro system. |
