Savage HD drive gear shim or not ?

I have order the HD drive gear 102514 for my savage flux and i want know if is necessary to shim or not ?

I've ordered one as well. I've read that these are being shimmed as part of getting ready to run 6S. I plan on looking at the wear pattern on the one I'm replacing and if its not properly wearing the teeth, I'll shim it as needed.
