Don't Know what to choose

Hello fellow members, my name is Chris and although I have been a member for a while this is my first post.
Let me begin by telling you what happened. I have an ofna ultra lx comp that was sitting on a shelf for a couple of year and decided to put it to good use in an electric conversion. I got a BK Warrior 9200 with a nemisis motor from an internet site. I used a 6s lipo 30c 2700mah battery. Last weekend while I was idling to go bash a little, the ESC started smoking and basically annihilated itself.
So now I am in the market for something new. I was thinking of a mamba monster maxx or maybe a losi speed controller with motor. When I spoke to the engineer at castle creations, he told me that my 6s 2700mah 30c battery would not be adequate and I would need at least a 6s with "5000mah" otherwise i would cook the ESP. I was wondering how true that was. He also recommended me to use a 4s 5000mah battery so it would be a little more tame.
Any advice is appreciated.
Thank you,
Chris

Hey Chris

The MMM system is great. It would be wise to get a bigger battery. The reason is because MMMs tend to fry under breaking if the battery can't take the power generated. A 5000mah battery that is 25c+ should work great.

2700mah=2.7ah times 30c = 81a
5000mah=5ah times 25c = 125a

I don't know what the magic number is, but an 81a battery isn't enough. You can look at flightmaxes or turnigys from hobbycity on a budget or hyperion if you want the best of the best. Flightpower will be coming out with a pack like hyperions and flightpower quality is usually top notch. Keep an eye out for that.

And we're glad you came to RCM!

Also, I'm pretty sure the BK Warrior isnt rated for 6s. That may be the reason for burning up.

I think the engineer may have been talking about running 6s through the combo. Thats a hot and FAST setup and you would need a larger enough battery to handle the amp draw. However, if you are running your Nemisis motor with a lower Kv, you could probably use the batteries you have no problem as the lower kv will help lower the amp draw.

Please enlighten us as to which Nemisis motor you are running.

Metallover, thanks for the welcome and the advice. I figured that the a battery under 100a would not be enough, I was thinking about running them in a series to get over 5000 mah but I don't have room on the chassis as it is. Will just have to go with a 4s.

Nitrostarter: (BTW love the avatar) I ran the BK warrior about 10 times, really fast before this happened. The problem is that the nemisis motor I have did not come with any markings to indicate the KV. I won't be using the nemesis anymore in that car!
I am really leaning towards the Monster maxx maybe with the 2200kv motor or do you think I should go with the 2700kv. Also, do you guys think a 4s battery will be enough power to move my buggy? I have been ripping the front tires off the rims with the 6s and I don't really need that much speed for bashing...
Thanks again,
Chris

I vote 2200 because it has more power because it's bigger. It'll be amazing on 4s and 6s. You won't beleive the power of this system. On 4s it'll probably top your old 6s system. 4s should be enough for you, and 6s is just a lipo away.

IMO, the 2200 CC system on 5s would be a great setup. Very versatile, so you can move it from a buggy to a truggy to a MT and the setup will work very well in all of them.

lincpimp 07.15.2009 12:50 PM

5s and a buggy is a bit much, just run 4s with the 2200 system...

ZippyBasher 07.15.2009 12:57 PM

Why is everyone saying the 2200 over the 2650 for a buggy?

BL_RV0 07.15.2009 01:19 PM

More power, runs cooler.

nitrostarter 07.15.2009 01:27 PM

Definitely cooler running with the 2200 versus the 2650. I've run both and can testify to that. The 1Y I have in my buggy now runs even cooler...

4s is great, 5s and 6s is insane on the 2200 in a buggy.

lincpimp 07.15.2009 01:42 PM

Plus the 2200 motor is more versatile if you ever wanted to run it in a larger/heavier vehicle with larger/heavier tires.

Plus you can run up to 6s on the 2200, 5s is the max on the 2650, and castle says no more than 4s on that motor.

zouz10 07.15.2009 02:17 PM

i believe that the 2200kv motor with the 4s 5000mah battery will be my choice. I have the buggy already set up however, castle creations is out of stock on the ESC and motor for now so i will have to wait. I will take pictures for you guys to see what i did.
Thanks for all your help,
Chris

I thought SMC was a top choice as well for betteries especially these babies from stormer

https://www.ssl-stormerhobbies.com/c...s&pn=SMC9028LT

9000maH at "28C" I'd say more like 25C but still thats a wopping 225A continiuos if thats that perticular rating.
