medusa motors?

Hi everyone, havnt been on here in a while

i currently run a rustler with feigao 9L motor, mamba max on 3S geared 13/40 and it used to run consistantly at around 120* F
a few runs ago it started running at 150 then last run it stopped, no throttle response but still had steering and i checked the temp and it was dead on 200

i know the feigao motors are fairly cheap and dont last as long as others so i assume its at the end of its life, i have had it about 9 months now

well anyway i was very happy with the feigao, power, speed, temps... everything was perfect for me. im still on a fairly low budget, so just wanted some opinion on medusa motors really
my feigao was an L can 2300Kv so the closest medusa motors would be V2 36-60 3000 or 2200, so opinions on which one would be more suited would be great

thanks, Sam

edit: theres also this
http://www.impaktrc.com/product_info...oducts_id=2475
the numbers confuse me a little but im pretty sure thats a 50mm can but its a Neu and fairly cheap

feigao's are 2 pole motors and medusas and neus are 4 pole, and are naturally stronger. Since money is a concern a 50mm medusa would be just as powerful and save you some bucks. If you're happy with your setup get the 2200kv motor which is closest to what you have. You won't be disappointed with a medusa.

Either of those will do just fine. I would pick the 2200 cause it was close to what you had so your gearing would be about the same. However I'm not aware of what the gearing limitations are when running a Rustler with a 5mm shaft motor, you may not be able to gear as high or low as you want. This is where someone with experience with these would be of better help. Also consider the 50mm versions as they will push a Rustler without a problem as well! I have one on my CRT.5 and it's never been above 130*

3s 50mm 3300 Medusa with 1/8" shaft

rcsammy 07.19.2009 09:26 PM

ok, 50mm medusa it is then and i can get them from Mike aswell
my feigao on 13/40 gearing clocked at around 40-45mph but 13t pinion is the lowest i can go otherwise the gears cant mesh properly
a little bit more speed would be nice aslong as theres still plenty of power
i want to stick with a 5mm shaft though because i already have all the mod1 pinions

+1 on the 2200kv

Gearing on this with a 5mm shaft? Get the 40 tooth spur from a Nitro Revo. Then gear it up.

Go with the big tooth Mod 1 Pinion of your choice.

hes running a 40 tooth spur and mod1!

you can gear much higher with the medusa, try a 15 or 16 tooth pinion and watch your car fly!

Thanks for the insight Dude. My bad.

He sure is. LOL

He could probably get by with a 18 or a 20 tooth even. A Rustler doesn't weigh much.

I use this motor in my Rustler...it rocks on 3s...but when you bump it to 4s...it is 800W of punch...and the motor stays around ~130 degrees.

i was set on getting the 2200 till i saw your post lol
what gearing are you running? and whats speed/power like?
at the moment im running 3S but would like to go up to 4S at somepoint so would be nice to know the motors going to run it fine

I am using 19/90 now but the motor is very efficient which allows lots of flexibility...I recommend gearing for ~40 given that the Rustler isn't always the best handling vehicle.

nice, you must know snell then, i got my MM off him

i want to stick with my mod1 setup and 40t spur though so looks like i would be best off with the 2200Kv, to be on similar gearing to you with the 3300 i would not be able to mesh the pinion

paid my money in today so will get a 2200 ordered with some sticker sheets and hope it comes before august the 7th with no import tax as i have a massive bash to go to

suicideneil 07.20.2009 12:59 PM

Import tax = if you order it from Mike, he should be able to mark the value lower, but anything over ~£20/$30 is going to attract tax + handling charges from royal mail or parcelforce. If you order from medusa directly, they will mark it at its full value.

You should expect to pay VAT at 15% (or whatever Gordo dropped it down to back along) + 10% import tax + ~£10 for handling. Never know, you may get lucky and it slips through, but usually it doesnt... :/

Am I missing something here? a Feigao 9L's kv rating is 2731rpm/v not 2300.

IMO, I say get another Feigao. As long as you setup was successful in the past, I would stick with it for the price. Granted, the medusa is a nice and stronger motor but also costs 2 times the Feigao.

No as far as the Neu motor you selected, I would at least run a 1509 series. I actually just installed a 1509/1.5D(4500kv) in my Rustler. I just received my CVD's to get it going so I'll up date on the status of that motor soon. It is a kinda high kv but its also a super strong motor and should have no problems pushing a rustler on 2 or 3s.

zeropointbug 07.20.2009 01:39 PM

All you would need is a 1506 Neu for a Rustler, which can be had for $130 for a 1506/2.5Y/S at ImpaktRC right now.
