Will this motor/esc combo work?
I just bought this CRT.5 with the extended chassis today!
http://www.rcuniverse.com/market/item.cfm?itemId=535537 My question is, will a MM and an aveox 36/15/1.5 (3768 Kv) be enough to power it? or will I need a bigger motor? Also, on a different note, the RC-Monster battery box listed here, http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...MFPbatterytray There is a specific option for the crt.5, and in the description it says it is specific to the rc-m chassis kit. Is that because the ofna extended one has the little lip at the chassis edge? and will it accommodate 2 2s packs? |
You got a good deal. I didn't. :grrrrrr:
 Make sure to look into the revo/jato shocks. I got 4 extra shocks with a used jato, and I put them on all four corners. The only mods I needed to do was replace the metal bolt holes with the ones from the old shocks and put a washer between the standoff and shock tower in the front. The metal ball/bolt hole things just pop out with a hammer/screwdriver and pop in with a pair of pliers. I don't have a way to mount the body in the front, but I'll get er done eventually. Enjoy your .5! |
The rcm crt.5 battery box has predrill mounting holes in it to fit Mike's chassis kit. It is also designed as a lay down battery box (center diff is moved over for room on mikes kit). I don't think it would fit well on the standard pro chassis but I could be wrong. Most people seem to have their batteries standing up if not using mike chassis.

Def not room to lay a battery flat on the Ofna chassis, barely room to stand one up! I made my own battery tray out of aluminum, my lipos have a huge heatsink! I don't know anything about the aveox motors but a Medusa 50mm is plenty adequate!
|
You don't plan to run "aveox 36/15/1.5 (3768 Kv)" on 4s lipo, do you? I'd look for something (medusa 50-60mm, Neu 1509/1512) around 2400-2800kv if you plan to run 4s all the time. It would probably get very hot running that aveox.
|
aveox is the predecessor of neu motors, and are of the same-ish quality. in fact, it is on the way back from neu repairs now
|
That's still 55,750rpm. Aveox motors seem to be rated for 50k. I'm pretty sure anything much over 45k will run pretty dang warm and anything 50k+ will run hot. I may be wrong though..

metallover, what is your motor choice, voltage, and gearing, and possibly theoretical top speed from brianG's calc
also, a traxxas 2075 servo w/ 125 oz torque should be good enough, right? |
Well I run the medusa 36-50-3300 in my .5 on 3s lipo. It's geared 13/46 which is for 38mph. Temps are about 125 motor, 135 MM, 95 FP 30c 3300mah.
Ideally, I would go for a Neu 1512/2D (2550kv) on 4s lipo; geared for 45-50mph. I'm not trying to say your aveox sucks, I'm just suggesting other stuff. |
i know, i just want to get a feel for a decent setup and speed range and stuff. assuming the tires are 4 inches, which gave your setup 37.9mph, I calced my motor on 3s, 12t pinion and got 39.95mph. I want around there because ideally i want to take this on the racetrack. I guess time will have to tell if this motor will do or not. If not, I will definatley be looking for a neu motor. Neu has an offer that will let me trade in my Aveox motor and get half price on a neu, which would bring the price down to just under $115
|
Well on 3s that'll be a strong motor. I thought your heart was set on 4s... 4s would be cooler and faster though, so the neu trade in would be cool.
|
I have 2s packs that are mine. I also have 3 zippy 3s flightmaxes that arent mine, but a friend's who has nothing to run 'em in, and who's dropped off the face of the earth. there was 4, but one blew up in ben's matrix a little while back if you guys remember... just randomly, poof.
I just thought 4s because then i dont have to buy more lipos! |
