Hot Fiegao motor

I have just put a new MMM in my converted zx-1 buggy after blowing the hobbywing 150amp esc and have found the esc dosent get very hot but the fiegao 8L 2075kv motor is reaching 90c or 190f with only 5min run time and it has twin 30mm fans on it.

I have tryed 11/46 and 13/46 gearing and adjusting settings on the esc but seems to have no change in temps.

I have seen other posts in forums about the feigao motors running hot but this is too hot i think and mabe a problem with the motor.

Should i stop using this motor due to i dont want it to kill my new MMM esc as it could have been the killer of my hobbywing 150amp esc.

probably demagnetized it from over heating, if its getting that hot that quick
i would stop using it

A feigao 8L is not 2075kv.... Do you mean an 8xl?

Feigao motors are not the best, they do get hot as they are inefficient...

But yours is getting hot too fast, I have a feeling the rotor is demagnetized. What voltage, number of cells, do you run this motor on?

Probably best to quit using it, and buy a better motor next time, a medusa of the cc neu 2200 would be economical choices...

Yes it must be the 8xL for the 2075kv, it is a 14.8v 4s setup and i have allways kept the gearing low as i want to slow it down anyway till i get used to it.
Might stop using it then till i can get a new one.

Try a Medusa 60 series 2000 or 2200 kv. http://www.rc-monster.com/brushlessmotors.php?pg=3 A much better engine at a v/good price as well. Mike also sells a heatsink clamp for the Medusa as well. http://www.rc-monster.com/brushlessmotors.php?pg=4

are you sure the motor what the motor is 100% it just reads funny like you are not sure, are you familiar with the L and xl sizes, an 8l is like 3000kv

hemiblas 07.23.2009 05:05 PM

Yep, thats too hot to fast. Something is wrong. The feigaos are inefficient, but it sounds like the motor is going bad. It only takes a couple runs with the motor getting over 200 and they get demagged.

If you go back with Feigao, get a 9XL. Otherwise, try out the Medusa or CC/Neu motor

Found the box and it has - FG5408408xL 2075kv. Its not very old and only got it earlyer sometime this year.

Might try one of the medus's around the same kv or slightly smaller when i get a new one.

Motor was purchased in april this year and is now stuffed i thought they would do a little better than this.

florianz 07.24.2009 03:59 AM

maybe there's a bad soldering, that can cause heat as well.

Feigaos are not high quality motors. That's why it did not last long. Get a medusa, and since it's a buggy, a 36-60-2000 or 36-60-2200 will work great. If you're looking for more punch, check out the 36-70-2300.

While talking to somone at my local hobby shop i noticed a large 36x60mm motor behind them and it turned out to be a larg ducted fan motor from a plain. It is a himark 36-34-1850kv motor it looked like a good quality motor
and had all the corect size bolt holes, shaft size and is fined heat sink can.

It is rated at 1850kvand dose upto 22v and is rated around 1200wats and in the ductec fan setup will do 2000grams or 2 kg of thrust so i purchased the motor and put it in my buggy and its PURRFECT. With the 13t pinion and 46t spure it has just the right speed and the motor didnt even go above 65c and the esc and lipo's just got warm and i didnt even see the fan run on the MMM.

I stoped running it after 15min and seem it would still go for longer as i normaly only get 10min so the run time is also allot better.
This motor was also only $99 aus dollars and so far seems to be a good one and first run is better than the feigao motor ever was.
