Using the Hobby King 2.4GHz for Land Vehicles?

Ok, so I'm in the market to get a really cheap 2.4GHz radio system, as I really don't want to blow the money on a Spektrum or JR or Futaba radio. I noticed Tower now offers a nice looking $80 2.4GHz radio, and there's the $80 Big Offroader as well. I've noticed Hobby City has been mentioned a lot lately, so I went over there and found some very nice looking $30 2.4GHz radios. My only problem is that they are stick style radios and that they are airplane radios. Now I don't know what the differences are between the two radio types, but I know that it's hard to use Airplane ESC's in an RC car, but that may just be the design of the ESC.

Would I have any trouble using one of these airplane radios with my Mamba Max and Traxxas servo? I looked at a review of the radio, and I think I could probably take it apart and put the electronics into one of my Traxxas radios. I would have to make sure that the pots are the same in the Traxxas radio as in the HK one, though I may be happy just to learn with the sticks.

Thanx,
Brijar!!!

Tower has a vehicle style 2.4 for cheap also. I posted a thread on it about a month or so back.

You might want to post up a wanted thread for a used DX2.0, someone may part with one cheap.

As for the Tower 224, why do they have to look so cheap.... putting reversing switches right there like they're an expensive option... and they are not even recessed- might make for an unexpected surprise!

Spektrum and the others DO need to drop their prices.

This stuff is far from new tech anymore....

Another option is to look on ebay for a used DX2 or DX2.0. They are extremely nice radios and go for anywhere from $50 to $100 shipped.

Speedassault is doing a stick to pistol Radio conversion, keep an eye out for it.

I use the Assan 2.4ghz Module from HC with my AE XP2 radio and it works great. For only $140 I get a pretty nice radio and 2 RXs. Just another option...

Alright, thank you for the options, guys. I've seen the Tower one and the similar one on Off Road RC's website, or somewhere. Like I said, trying to keep it ridiculously cheap here.
Those spektrum ones are out of my price range, even used. I don't really need all the features they come with, I just want something with excellent range at a great price, and this Hobby King radio seemed to hit the spot. I'm just not sure if it will work with a Mamba Max esc, since you have to get like a Pistix adapter to use an airplane ESC with a land radio.

Could anyone explain to me exactly what the Pistix does? Does it just all the ESC to not give power to the motor at neutral throttle? Or does it convert the PWM signal to something else? I really don't know.

Thanx,
Brijar!!!
