Air compressors
 

I got a $20 off coupon in the mail from harbor freight and I have been eyeing air compressors thee and I think now is the time. I was looking to get this:

And most likely pair it with the airbrush Gee had used for his bodys. Does this look like a overall good compressor. Those numbers mean nothing to me and I have no idea if this is wrong for what I am looking to use it for(blowing off dirt and an occasional airbrush).

Well the cfm means cubic feet of air per minute . The higher the cfm # the more air is put out. For what you intend to use it for it should work. For blowing off dirt it may be a tad weak though. If you could find something in the 4-8 cfm range, it would be better for cleaning vehicles with.

Unless you want to hear a compressor running constantly, consider an airtank, or use in conjunction with your compressor- I have this one-www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=40057

Also great for airing up tires without messing with a cord.

I don't have great things to say about the included valve assy, but I intend to put a cheap regulator on it eventually. Still well worth the money.

If you really go all out you could get an old compressor from a fridge or ac unit then get an air tank and regulator. There you go, a 150-300psi compressor for $50.

funny you mentioned this...I have access to old fridges and was thinking of doing just that!

My science teacher actually has that pancake red compressor, I'd say it doesn't fill up as fast as I'd like, we were only using it on burst at around 80PSI shooting up paper rockets.. It was powerful, for a couple seconds until we had to refill the tank and then the PVC assembly that the rocket mounted on..

I personally, used to have a very, VERY old compressor, that was about 100PSI, with no tank.. at all, and would get hot every time we used it.

Finally, we decided to get a better one, a 2HP - 8 Gallon compressor, with a max of 115 PSI.

Would recommend this, sure it's $130, but I've seen the coupons put it down to around $80.00

Pick up harbor freight's daily booklet's or weekly, they will have a coupon for that compressor to take it down about 40-50 bucks..

BTW, you will need compressor oil for the one I linked to..... It's about $3 a bottle, and but you will only need one and a half to fill the reservoir all the way up, but you will need to start refilling it in about 4-6 months.

I have an old one I might just have to take a lookse into it and see what I can find. Where abouts in a fridge is it? I'm not too familiar with them(even though I need to break it open to take out something so I can haul it to the local scrap yard).
