Keep stripping hexes and wheels from my LST
 

Hi Guys,

Since 2 days my LST finally runs! But I have already stripped 3 hexes and 3 wheels. So the hexes are all round now, and the wheels too. But I really like the wheels+tyres. So I would like to keep them. But is it possible to glue the hex and wheel together? If so, which glue should I use? And if not, what could I do instead of glueing it together?

P.S. I have got a LST1, so with plastic hexes.

i used glue and a pin once...drilled through the rim and halfwat through the hex and inserted 2 pins so the wheel is locked by them to the hex and then used super glue to hold the hex in place.

I use this plastic epoxy called Plastic Welder it is some strong stuff. I have sued ti to glue back together steering knuckles on my rock crawler when I didnt have a spar and it lasted longer then a new one did. Its some really good stuff. Walmart used to ahve it but they dont carry it at the one here anymore. Orielly Auto Parts has it and sometime Advance Auto Parts has it.

What is a rim? (Sorry, my English isn't that good)

EDIT: Now I know what it is. But how did you drilled thorugh the rim? I can't get there with my drill??? Do you got a pic of it maybe?

You will probably need to drill & tap the hexes to accept those screws, but it wont be hard if you have a pillar drill, or just a vice and cordless drill + a good eye. Probably M2 sized tap & 2mm hole.

Has anyone thought about using rivets from inside of the rim to the outside?

Sounds like it'd work, but I don't know how the rivet-er works..

A rivet gun is only much use for joining two flat pieces of material a few mm thick, it wouldnt be much use for fixing stripped hexes..

also try balancing your wheels..

Oh, okay, my dad has these pretty long and big rivets.....

Canary yellow is the rim, the weird sun shine rays is the spokes of the rim, the black thing is the hex, green lines are the rivets..Red arrow thingy is just a little blowup picture of the spot of the rim.

I see what you're getting at now. You would have to drill 3 or 4 holes in the hex for the rivet to pass though, but that is also going to mean drilling though the center part of the rim- I can see that snapping off/out completely under acceleration.

I think switching to larger 17 or 23mm hexes is the easiest thing to do, just means buying the adapters and rims to match.

I guess I'm gonna have to boil off the tire and get kulang's last rim :]
