Loctite Red/Blue?
 

Is it ok to use the Red Loctite on the Pinion? When and where should it be used if at all?

Blue loktite on the pinion = pinion falling off! At least for me, I was using blue loktite on my pinion and it fell off in my first race. I still use blue on my wheel nuts but most everything else gets red

I use Blue. But on the pinion, I cover the shaft in it as well, slide the pinion on, and blue loctite on the set screw then.

I don't use loctite on pinions, just on CVD and axle set screws. I use blue loctite.

I never use Red unless it's never to be removed again.

I always use Blue and it's never let me down. Never had a pinion come loose.

I am going to redo my pinion with red, because even with a notched motor shaft the blue has allowed the set screw to come loose.

+1, never failed w/Ol' Blue. I use red Red only for CVD assembly.

On big front impacts, the blue loctite on my pinion set screw held tight, but allowed the pinion to slide forward and eventually off the motor because while the pinion is flat-sided, it's flatsided all the way to the end. I need to cut a slot/dip in the flat-side to keep the pinion in place. The blue loctite did it's job in keeping the set screw in place, but that still doesn't prevent the pinion from sliding off completely.
Blue loctite anything that's metal-to-metal. I still have some parts I never did. So far, so good, but some have some off (and parts lost).

If you have to use Red you are not doing something properly. Blue should hold in any RC application. Red is "permanent" you will usually have to heat the part up to remove it, if you can get it loose then it wasn't applied properly. You have to make sure that the threads in both the setscrew and the part are clean. If they are not then any oil contamination will keep locktite from setting up and the part will come loose. The other thing t keeping a pinion on is that the setscrew must be perpendicular to the flat on the shaft., if not then when you shift the load on the motor it will come loose. If you are using red on a pinion I hope you don’t plan on changing gear ratios or motors using that same. Then again what do I know about it other than we buy the stuff in 8 oz bottles. I have literally broken #10 screws using red. If you really want it to be permanent use the Green sleeve retainer, its good enough to re-bond the magnet to the motor shaft.

I have no issue getting my pinions off when using red. I always used blue until I started racing. Racing puts a whole nother level of stress on components. Also most of my truggy is assembled with red, blue just doesn't hold up. If I can't get it apart easily I heat it up a little with a butane lighter and that does the trick.

On the Savage Flux, blue on the pinion will not hold up at all. Red is essential.

do you guys think the brand of blue loctite helps?? so what brand/company blue loctite are you guys using? (the ones that has success)

Loc-Tite brand or Permatex you can't go wrong with. It's all pretty much the same anyway ?
