CC/Neu vs Losi Xcelorin vs Tekin T8 motors
How do the following motors compare to one another. I believe all are 4-pole (though I can't find any info on the Tekin). Prices aren't that far apart from each other.
CC/Neu 2200kV Losi Xcelorin 2100kV or 2400kV Tekin T8 2250kV The Xcelorin motors seem to be the smallest at 67mm long while the Tekin is the longest at 76mm, and the CC/Neu closely behind at 75mm. The Tekin says it's sensored, but can run sensorless. How do they compare in performance, power, torque, heat, etc.? Thanks. |
I wish I could chime in, however I don't have any experience with the Losi or Tekin systems, only a Neu 1512 which has served me well for the last 2 years in a BL Revo.
Just judging, the Tekin and CC/Neu system would perform very similarly, only the Tekin is yet an unproven system still as not very many users have it. Although, I would like to get the Tekin myself in time. The Losi system is smaller, so if they have the same efficiency as the CC/Neu or Tekin, then it would run hotter obviously, but still more than enough power really. All three systems are 4-pole yes, if I'm not mistaken. |

Lets see... Who specializes in designing brushless systems and who requests a brushless system to be made from a company overseas? Tekin and Castle design and destribute there stuff, while the Losi does not design their stuff. I've never tried a tekin esc, but i have both tekin and castle motors. It's quite apparent that tekin put in a lot more effort to design the motors than castle. The tekin has solder tabs and the stator seems to have been been engineered for the least amount of cog torque (very easy to spin by hand). The castle is basically a copy of the neu motors with a few changes to make them more suitable for cars. Both are great motors, nonetheless. My tekin is a 1900 kv 1.5Y and my castle is a 2650 1Y so it's hard to compare temps. The tekin definatly runs a good 20-35 degrees cooler even when geared for 50 mph on 5s.

How is the throttle response with the T8? I read another thread/review of the T8 where the person said there was a delay in response when he hit the throttle. The T8 does look quite nice. |
Are you sure it wasn't the RX8 esc that had the delay? I can't see the motor causing it.

No, not sure. It's the only other review I've seen on the RX8 and T8. It probably was a setup issue that the guy had with the RX8, but I just want to confirm the motor doesn't contribute to that.

i would say the castle motor. i love mine its a copy of a neu. but made for a car. so in this case its better than a neu. at least i think so. i have ran a tekin but sold it do to the rotor split. they got a replacement but i sold it as the caste motor is a tank. never have any problems with them vs. tekin. the only problem is limited kv choices

Both my original "black can" neu 1515's have served me wonderfully for the last two years, got em up to 200F a few times with no worries, just trying to push em to the limit in 105F oklahoma summer heat lmao, i finally made the MMM fan come on!!!! for like 10secs lmao. But if mine is not as well suited to a car than the castle copy then it should be a good one, if one of my neu's ever goes out(god forbid!!) i'll get either a castle or tekno neu, until the T8 has been tested by the consumers throughly then i'll stick with Neu and its copies.

A few ppl have had separated rotors or cracked rotors when they first came to market, but I am pretty sure Tekin has addressed the issue, an I personally am very interested in getting one for sure. Like SpeedyBl said, I like the fact it has solder posts (as ppl have been complaining about motor not having that for years)and the sintered rotor, which in theory should increase efficiency over the standard Neu rotor, although might not be as strong which could be why the first ones were breaking?
The T8's just look like they are better quality when you look at it, better built. |
I thought the Neu and CC/Neu motors used sintered rotors also. What do they use?
Were the rotor problems on the Tekins on the T8 motors or their smaller long-can 1/10 motors? The T8 motors look like completely different animals compared to the rest of the Tekin motor lineup. I'm hoping that means improved in all ways. The lazy side of me likes the pre-installed wires of the CC/Neu, but I also like the ability to change the wires more easily should they ever be damaged as is available with the T8. |

I've looked into several mainstream 1/8 motors to find they have very similar structure. All are 4 pole rotors, 12 slot cored stators. All have their rotor magenet pieces fiber wrapped, either with carbon or with Kevlar. Even the rotor diameters are very close, 18~19mm. The difference is in the details. Rotor balancing, winding leads, bearings, sensors...... and brands.

well, all I can tell you is my experience with a Neu 1515/1.5d and a T8 2650.
motors were used in two different vehicles: a Jammin X1-CRT and an Ofna (or is it Hobao) Hyper 7, cells ranged from 2S to 5S Here's what I noticed: Neu 1515/1.5D Tons of power, reliable and is definitely worth the price I paid for it. Rarely got over 130F. Of course, it would cog a little bit (both with a MMM and a RX8) at low speeds, but sweet mother of everything brushless would it open up a can of monkey stomp at WFO throttle. 5S usage was plain ridiculous; there ain't no way you can use that kinda power on race day. Unless, of course, you plan on going no higher than halfway through the throttle pull on your gun. 4S usage is a little more manageable. Say goodbye to the foams in your tires, though; a couple of wide f'n open throttle pulls down the straight will result in either your rig ending up on it's lid or tires the size of paper plates. Yes, I put duct tape on the inside of the tires. And no, it didn't help. 2S and 3S is where it is most happy...and where you get the best combination of speed and control. And temperature. You can probably get similar or lower temps on a 4S, but only if your name is "Johnny Magic Fingers". I'm talking about SMOOTH throttle control. Like my silk boxers smooth. Or smoother. Summation: get it if you can afford it. You won't be disappointed. Tekin Redline T8, 2650kv Meh, a decent motor with less power than the Neu, but not too bad considering it's a smaller motor. Temps run a little hotter than the Neu, so I wonder about efficiency. Also cogs a little less than the Neu when run without the sensor lead, but seemed to be an absolute slug when the sensor lead was on. Your results may vary. I'm thinking it was a problem with the settings on the RX8 which led to it being such a donkey...again, however you decide to program the timing will more than likely dictate how she'll react/run in the finer points of a race (mid-air correction, cogging coming out of turns, etc) Summation: Good power, could possibly be less efficient (higher temps) but looks to be sturdily built.
