instead of using paypal pay for what you want to get directly through the merchant using the ammex card. You should consider getting a checking account with a debit card! because of your age it may need to be a joint accout with a parent but at least you wouldn't have this problem anymore

If you have a checking account you can link it to your Paypal account! Therefor the money doesn't have to be in the paypal account, if it's in your bank account the transaction will go through

Can't you just deposit the Amex gift card contents to your savings account?

Why don't you just use the linked savings account as your funding source when buying with paypal? It will process as an instant ACH transfer, not an e-check.

That's how I pay for everything when using paypal, comes directly out of my savings account, which really should be called a spendings account the way I blow through my money. Almost makes it TOO easy to spend money though, 3 clicks of the mouse and I'm another $100 in the hole!

brushlessboy16 07.30.2009 07:14 PM

it will not do instant transfer. i tired. e checks still.

simplechamp 07.30.2009 08:19 PM

That's weird that it won't instant transfer. Call up Paypal and ask them why it won't process as an ACH transfer

i believe it is because he does not have a credit card on file. I have a similar condition. joint savings account, linked with paypal, but... when I taught my parents about ebay, I put their credit card in my paypal account. now my order of payment methods is
1. paypal balance
2. bank acct
3. mom's CC

I believe paypal allows the instant transfer from the bank account, only because they know if they cannot withdrawal the funds from the bank account, they can charge the credit card. they cant instantly suck the money out because it sits as a pending transaction, and then they front the money to the seller.

of course I could be all wrong, but at least this theory makes sense to me

simplechamp 08.02.2009 10:44 PM

Aahhhh yep you are right.

Whenever I pay for something with Paypal there is a little * note that says "if bank account has insufficient funds we will charge the remaining balance to credit card #XXXXXXXX"

It's just Paypal making sure they don't get stiffed.

_paralyzed_ 08.02.2009 10:55 PM

^x2 same for me. paypal balance, bank account, then credit card (which is my mom's and I'm 30!)

So, BB16- get one of you 'rents credit cards and put it into your paypal account, then you can instant pay from your savings account and won't have to do this again.

I will send you the amount via pay-pal if you send me the card, I'll just use it for gas, no sweat off my balls.

PM me if you still need to do that.....
