Current draw with 6s in truggy?
 
I was thinking about running higher voltage to reduce current draw (however, I think the torque from a low kV motor on 6s would be too much for a truggy).

Anyone know what typical current demands are for 6s in a truggy (assuming motor in the range of 1500-1700kV)?

Trying to see if my current 3s batteries can handle the draw (they're rated for about 85A continuous).

I have no idea about 6s in a truggy but I do have eagle tree graphs of my truggy on 5s with a 1515 2.5D (1650kv). Average amp draw is low 20's but it's not uncommon to see over 100 amp spikes and I have hit a max of 161amps. My batteries are capable of ~112amps continous, 4500mah 25C/50C and they are pushed pretty hard, I don't think I would chance something that can only handle ~85A continous, even on 6s.

Like was said, 85A is a bit on the low side for current. But, with some planning, it can be used. Just gear for as low as you can, increase the punch control (assuming you are using a MMM), and avoid WOT take-offs. Those three things can help a lot to curb those high current spikes.

I get right around 25-30 minutes bashing runtime in my truggy on 5s and 5Ah cells geared to ~38mph. That's an average of 12A with bursts between 110A and 160A+. That equates to an average power draw of 222w, and a max burst of around 2400w. If you can gear accordingly to get around the same power draws at 6s, you're looking at 10A average and ~110A bursts. So, it depends on those batteries. What kind of cells are we talking about here?

They're off ebay. I don't remember the brand, but have taken decent punishment. They will definitely kill a cell out of the pack if I run a single 3s pack on my truggy, but I typically ran them in parallel for 170A+ constant current capability. They're rated for about 100A surge. Still a bit short of the 110A you mentioned. Seems like if I wanted to run them in series 6s config, I'd have to avoid fast throttle to WOT and not go from reverse to fwd.
When you say "increase punch control", do you mean lower the punch?
Sounds like even at 6s, the current demands are still pretty high. As mentioned, on 3s, the pack setup (3s2p) is rated for 170-180A so no problems, even in mid-air when I use the throttle to level out (which is when the single 3s packs popped). On 4s, I run 100A packs and I haven't had problems.

I run the MMM 2200 combo in a Losi 8T with 6S 5.2Ah pack. The Eagle Tree tells me a peak current of 133A at start up. Average current varies a lot due to field condition and driving style, normally at 20~40 A range.
