referb mmm fried

I run a 60 3300kv madussa in a slayer.
I just put in the mmm the other day and using a 5000 30c 3s pack and ran for the duration of the pack well. Felt the components and everything was barely warm. I go to put a second pack of the same kind on and nothing happens, so thinking its dead pack I try another pack that is freshly charged just to see if it powers on(2s pack). It lights up for a second then poof the smoke comes and you know how the rest goes.

I know my gearing was good.
I know my connectors were good.
I know I had a free moving drivetrain.
Still have the two speed set up so that would help if anything on lowering the amp load.
I run and set up the mmm for mechanical brakes.

I would like to know what I did wrong or what I can do?

I can tell you it had nothing to do with over-current with that setup. Most likely some type of voltage ripple, though I'm not sure how or why. This should have been posted in the Castle Creations forum- Hopefully a MOD will move it there so the CC reps can help you out.

Did something short out? What brand packs are you using?

bent70 08.06.2009 11:57 AM

Sorry, ment to be in castle forum I had both forums open.

3s was tenergy, which I have had great results with in the same application but with a mamba max esc.
2s was a new flightmax hardpack that has been used for a few cycles too in the same app w/ the mm.

My MMM V2 did the same thing the other day after almost a year of working flawlessly(Turned the switch ond, poof!)... the V3 is still working great... for a long time too I hope....

You say you're running a slayer? The revo short course thing? A 3s system might be a little hard on electronics. Maybe the esc could take it but the batteries probably were the weak link. I would suggest getting a hyperion 35c pack or getting a motor/batteries to run 4-6s.

But you said when you plugged the pack in the esc fried? Sounds like something shorted...

Yea, the short course revo basicly.
When I laid out my system I used the calculators and those said I would be good motor to battery wise with the gearing I am running. Although there could be a difference from whats on paper and whats in real life.

I have another mmm/2200kv combo that I am thinking of putting in, I just what to figure out what was the problem so I don't kill that. I pretty sure I want to run that with 4s packs at minimum. An I on the right track for that setup?

4s on the 2200 is relatively tame. With 4wd it will be quite controllable, and if you want throw a 6s pack in there and tear it up. You'll want some packs that can handle a good amount of current, typically 100+ continuously. You'll never actually draw that much power, it's just a rule of thumb.

Whats the C rating on the tenergy pack? I have had a couple and I can tell you that they do not hold their voltage well. I own a bunch of their 10 and 15C packs for my park flyers and they have all puffed pulling some very small amperages.

bent70 08.07.2009 11:34 AM

sorry its turnigy 30c 5k 3s packs
I was thinking of my airplane pack thats tenergy
