CC/Neu heatsink?
Hey guys, even with timing at 2, punch an 60% and start power at low geared at 18/68 my CC/Nue managed to reach 165f after about 15min (ambient was 75f) in my revo on 6s. Ive looked around but cant find a heatsink for a finned 1515. Maybe a fan? (BrianG you dont have to answer this question :lol:). Any suggestions on how to cool it down?

Esc stayed around 140-150, motor was 165f max., batts were 110f.

Those temps are actually quite good. Considering you're running 6S, if it was my truck, I would be amazed to see the CC/Neu motor reach 165dF after 15 minutes of running.
If you do still want to lower the temps, drop your pinion gear down to a 16T. |

By timing at 2; do you mean 2 degrees? Or do you mean MMM setting 2 "normal"? In which case setting timing to "low" or "lowest" will help

Yeah you wanting timing to be set at 0 for the lowest temps. Gear up if you want more speed. I have found that the gearing windows for these types of motors are very wide.

big greg, I thought that the max. safe temp on the CC/Neu was 170f, or am i wrong? I would kinda like to just run untill my batts they run out (30 mins or so) without stopping to cool down because of high temps. Would this heatsink work? http://www.impaktrc.com/product_info...oducts_id=4036
Its 40mm and the CC/Neu is 41.78mm, think it will work? |
Integrated fins on a can are almost ALWAYS more efficient at cooling. Using a heat sink on a CC NEU you would only be getting 1/2 of the contact surface area. The space between the CCNeu fins would just be void space filled with insulating air because it wouldn't be moving away from the motor.
15min at 165? Better than I can claim on really conservative gearing and driving. If you want better temps, change your gearing, your driving habits, or wait for cooler weather:neutral: |
Keep in mind that you ARE running 50,000 rpms in a MT...
Honestly, I say drop a tooth or 2 on the pinion, or drop the voltage.... Or get a lower kv motor. |
170dF (175, to be el-perfecto) is the maximum safe temp for Novak HV motors, I remember from the dark ages when I ran those. Nah- for Neu/CC motors, 200dF is your safety ceiling. Always good to keep it under that, of course. And you've got plenty of wise advice from us here- your temps are great just the way you have it right now, exceptional in fact. :yipi:

You could custom make a mounted side heatsink, that attaches with screws, and then goes up into a heatsink... should drop temps a far amount, maybe 10-15F?

i acually have seen one of these motors get to 220 and be ok, but yea keep it under 200 and your golden
