HW EZrun 150a esc or refurb MMM?

i sent in my defective EZrun 150a esc to nitrorcx for replacement 5 weeks ago and got an email from them saying that it is out of stock and they will be out of stock for 4-6 more weeks. they have offered me a 2nd option. i can get a full refund from them instead of waiting for the esc. i have seen that CC has the refurbished MMM esc for only $100. the only problem i have with that is, they are the v1 and v2 monsters and the warranty is only 2 months. i know they have a high failure rate and i am afraid to chance it. i'm pretty sure the EZrun has a 1yr warranty just like the non-refurb mambas do.

so, what should i do? wait for my EZrun, or get a refurb MMM?

also, another thing to consider: i have the program card already for the EZrun. Do the refurb mambas come with castle link?

It seems like they may never have the ez150s in stock. I was going to pick one up for fun just to play around with and test and everytime I check they are not in stock. Its only a great deal if you can buy one.

I thought the refurbs came with full warranty? If they do I'd go with the MMM because customer service is much easier to find from the mfr. The Moms are v1 and v2s that are upgraded to v3s so you're essentially getting a v3. I don't think they come with castle link but I may be wrong. Check again on the warranty and software. Nitrorcx has a tendency to restock very slowly so it may be longer than 6wks for the EZRun. At the moment I'd lean toward the MMM. This coming from a fan of Hobbywing ESCs.

i just checked castle's website and they say that the refurbs come with a 2 month factory defect warranty. if they did have the standard, full warranty, i would get one for sure.

also, i like how the fan on the EZrun is a standard sized 50mm fan. the MMM uses a specific sized fan that you have to get from castle.

And the Ez-Run fan is on ALL the time, I've run the 80A version in the Slash and we have been brutal on it, keeps coming back for more!

That sucks about the warranty.
My main concern with going with the EZRun is nitrorcx may never restock them, or take super long to restock. Judging by the price, I think they bought a huge qty at once for a low price, but now Hobbywing is probably out of stock. For the price, I'd really like to pick up a few EZRun combos, ESCs, and/or motors, but so far, nothing's been restocked.

I've read of a lot of people's MMMs fans going out. My HW fans have been fine. The only problem I've had is that the screws on the fan on the ESC are coming loose since they're only screwed into the ESC fins and not a threaded hole. But they've taken a lot of abuse, including flipping directly on to the fans because I was testing and running without the lid. I've also read the packaging of the MMM has a tendency to break. Even read a CC rep say that it's not as strong as it could be, or as he wanted, because of compromises to keep cost down. Makes sense, but I haven't had problems with the case on my HWs.
Sorry, none of that helped probably. You can pick up a HW EZRun 80A ESC on ebay for $70 shipped. If you decide to stick with the HW 150A, maybe you can pick up an 80A to run for the time being and have a spare ESC when the 150A comes back. The 80A is underrated IMO. It can handle quite a bit.

the motor i am using is only 1400kv and i need at least 6s lipo to get it up to a decent speed. i think the 80a is out of the question. it would be nice to have one when i get a hyper ste, but both the 150a and 80a escs are HUGE.

i have a brand new HW 150amp i would sell. PM me. I would go with castle tho if given the choice, Castle even said that the failure rate on these ESC's were due to the switches, which are gone.

I race with my HW 150 for 40mins not only it survive the race I got 3rd vs nitro truggy. I got twice replacement from HW because of punch & sensor error. I used to have MMM v2 but they failed me & I sold them away.

My best friends is medusa & HW now:)

Please buy it from Mike if you choose to buy another one. I've been shafted by Kershaw, and cannot recommend him nor see another person get ripped off by him.

an other reason to by it at rcm: we use this forum for our brushless builds, so it would be fair enough to buy the esc here
