advise on my electric setup

Im just building a brushless conversion for an MBX5, I bought my electrics secondhand and wondered if anyone in the know can advise what sort of performance i can expect.

I have a Monster Mamba Esc V3
Medusa 60 mm 2000KV motor
2x 4 cell 14.8V flightpower 4300 batterys

With 14.8 V and the 60mm 2000kv motor is it going to be fast enough for racing and what sort of run times would you expect?

Thanks

sounds like a solid setup. You'll get great runtimes. You can also choose a motor a little higher in kv if you only plan on running 4s, but that will shorten runtimes a little.

Except, are you wanting to run 2 4 cells in parallel for 4s 8600mah? That's a heavy battery right there... Or do you mean two 2 cell 4300 batteries in a series?

No wasnt going to run both together, thanks for the reply Darrell I dont need the speed to be mad mad as will be racing on quite a tight circuit anyway.

cheers

you should do 10mins without any problems. solid racingsetup.

glassdoctor 08.17.2009 02:10 PM

Yep.. 10 to 15 minutes depending on the track and driving style. It will have plenty of power... gear around 14t

sounds great :) cant wait to test it out wednesday night!!

That's not speaker wire, is it? That would be funny if it is..

Looks great. I'm looking forward to seeing more projects out of you if you do more.

Ive just tested this on the street outside my house and all i can say is wow!!! Its mental! much quicker than my nitro Hyper 9 with the OS speed. As I will use this on dirt ive upped the punch control to 70% and set the timing to normal otherwise i can see me getting no traction at all hehe

The fan on the ESC didnt even come on and everyting was very cool even after 10 mins of use, Im presuming the fan comes on only when its needed?

Bondonutz 08.18.2009 12:01 PM

Correct, Fan has thermostat set @ 150degrees F.

lambchops 08.18.2009 12:24 PM

Ah ok cheers, so when the fans on its getting on the hot side? Am I right in thinking you dont want to run it past 170F ?

Bondonutz 08.18.2009 12:42 PM

The fan coming on is really nothing to worry about but It's a heads up that you need to monitor your temps untill you know for sure where they're going to max out at.
I think the ESC is safe up to 180F,not sure ?
If the fan come on and goes off while your driving around then I see nothing to worry about, it's doing exactly what it's supposed to do. Just keep an eye on it with a temp gun.
Whats your gearing, did you go with the 14T pinion ?

emaxx 101 08.18.2009 01:34 PM

Joe Ford told me that as long as the motor stays below it's max. safe temp, the esc will be fine. Same goes for the MM.

lambchops 08.18.2009 03:51 PM

OK cool ive not seen it come on yet but tomorrow night will be the big test as it hitting the track!! Will try and remember to take my vid camera and post some video.

At the moment its got a 15t pinion which it came with, my only other choices i have are a 10 and a 12 I need to order a 14. But just up the road seems to have loads of punch and lots of top end.. I guess tomorrow will tell what I need to buy..
