front tire ballooning
how many here with the stock e revo transmission experience front tire ballooning at WOT and how bad is it?
|
I had that problem, but have taped all my new tires and now it isn't an issue:

ok...because I have packed my center diff with 500K oil and the front still balloons like crazy, so I wanted to see whet the stock transmission was like in regards to the issue.
|
Thats what I have too, so if you use gorrila tape on your tires, you won't be able to see the balloning, or at least it will be considerably less.
|
thank kev!

glue holes in rims and make holes in tires.

From what I've read the E-revo center diff only has 2 spider gears so you need SUPER thick diff lock grease or else the power will unload to the front too much. Belting the tires with tape will cut down on the ballooning, but it will only mask the problem of excess power unloading to the front.
I still use the stock center locked spool. I don't see the point of buying the center diff, then doing everything possible to lock it back up again. Maybe someone will start making those 1/8th hybrid center diffs again, but until then the locked spool is your best bet for consistent power transmission |
I have a home made center diff, it's a 1/8th scale diff thats made of thunder tiger and traxxas parts. It still unloads but I can pop wheelies and ride them out now.
|
Any binding around the rear diff? I'd think with taped fronts and 500K fluid there would be no more problem...
|
no binding. it's just that all my wheels/tires come assembled, and I'd hate to take them apart to tape them because I hate gluing tires.
|
If you have any center diff you will experience some unloading to the front wheels during hard acceleration, and during speed runs. The power will always go to the path of least resistance, which is the front wheels, due to weight transfer and aerodynamic lift to the front end at speed.
If you want to wring out the most speed possible, swap the solid tranny output shaft back in. |
ya but I kinda like the speed where it is now but thanks linc.
