new brushless build questions fo xL motors
I have ran 3 10L motors and 2 9L faegio motors for some time. I currently have a shulze 18.97 and 4 older hacker comps, I know the controllers are 1200 watt controllers, and I have seen alot of speculation of how manny watts a xl8 could use. I want to take the plunge into an xl can, but am teribly afraid of popping a controlers. I have faithfully used my controllers for some time and although I got my money's worth out of them, I would still like to keep them for alot longer.
the truck I am building is a hybrid, I am using flm hybrid bulks and a chain drive trans out of a Twinforce, and slapping them on a torpedo chassi with twinforce batt cages slung under. so the gear ratio would be of a stock twinforce I have ate up manny e-maxx trans and only have 2 sets of ultramaxx gear sets for me to run, one is on my brushless g2r revo, and the other is on my dual 9l race bomb e-maxx. So I am left with the best trans ever made a twinforce chain drive http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...eme/giboo2.jpg http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...eme/giboo1.jpg I already have a Twin force with 10L with hackercomp, and its the ultimate brushless truck. The drive train is indistructable with tcd diffs and the trans so I know it will hold up to a coke can motor like 22 series HTTP://users.adelphia.net/~tjjohnson2/twinmovie.wmv but the big question is, if I worry too much about my current controllers taking on an XL can should I just buy another controller. I would like to have another with some heft to it for other projects. Something like a 2000 watt controller. but nothing like a shulze 36.160 that is 650$, I only have a budget of 300$ for controller and 100 for motor. I have my eye on a 9xl or 8 xl, but I can only run 14 cells so I am leaning to the 8xl, but I know a 9xl is easier on the controller. I dunno, big delima, I do know I am going to run a 10L and shulze in the truck initaly, but I have come accustom to the torque dually BL mosters I have built in the past. But to keep down weight and cell count, I would like to see what the xl can has to offer |
The XL cans basicly give you longer rumtime, cooler temps and a bit more torque, for 14 cells only id get a 7xl, no need for a 8xl, you can use it but it will have less power. For my g2r im getting a 10L on 14-16 cells. what runtimes are you getting?

Coolhand_country has run a schultze 18.97 with his 2250 with no problems
what you should consider is the amps the controller can handle and not hte watts. a 9920 would do just fine on a xl motor. im not sure as to the hackers since im not familiar with them but a 9920 will do fine.
Yes, a 9920 should be plenty.
yeah but how manny times did he run his 2250 with that controller, basicly this is going to be my daily driver replacment of my brushless twinforce since I have to wait freaken 3 weeks for 6$ bushing parts for repairs. I really want something to hold up for a bit, a combo I can play with for years and not worry.
I run the hacker comp and 10L in the g2r I get a 20min walk around the block playing, or about 15 WOT on 14 gp3300 not matched |
I dunno about the 9920, but the 9918 is only a 1000watt controller and I do not think I wish to buy BK agian, been threw 3 warrior 70s and 1 warrior 9918, to do a comparison the hacker is a quantum2 vs some duratrax 12t is like BK controller, guess if I want a real good product agian I will have to wait for Castle's offerings
The BK controllers arent that bad, what is keeping you away from them? How is the speed of the 10L ? thanks.

its obvious you have not played with better products than BK. I do not like the wierd lose of posistion it gets accelerting at various times. sounds like your trans is being ate up. Also the smoother accelration from hacker, the only thing I do not like about hacker is the breaks. But I dial that down with 3pk
also I can only gestimate top speed of 35-40, but I do like the acceleration the most
Well, not all systems are gonna run smoothly, but i dont know why it accels at varoius times?
35-40, sounds good to me:)
well I guess I better wait till I hear from people that run the xL motors. I already seen a few people pawn off thier 7xl, seems like a hot motor of that size, but I do not know. I want to play with xl stuff, but not pop my controllers
Yea, ask coolhandcountry, hes played around with TONS of motors.
