nomadio react powers on and off constantly

just like the title says i pulled out my react after a hiatus, when i turn it on it cycles on and off. I have pulled it apart and it gets constant power to the main circuit board. any ideas or other trouble shooting tips.
thanks

Stupid question, but are the batteries new/charged? That sounds like a low voltage condition.

e-rev project 09.05.2009 01:29 PM

brand new batteries reads, 4.82v on the controller, the low voltage warning is at 3.8v, which is the factory setting. it stays on for 2-3 seconds then cycles

Is the antenna securely fastened? Some radio systems NEED the antenna as the load or all the power reflects back into the transmitter circuit and causes it to fail. If that's not it, sounds like something is wrong. Maybe take it apart and look for cold solder joints...

internal antenna is secure. how do i check for cold joints, i have a multimeter which setting? i also shot an email off to nomadio.

Just look around for questionable looking joints.

You are getting power to the board, so the batteries, tray contacts, and wiring leading up to the board is most likely fine.

Cycling power is a common symptom in switching circuits (and is usually caused by a partial/full short somewhere), but not sure if this radio has a switching circuit.

Is there some kind of master reset button somewhere?

ok i have a video this time

so i took everything apart nothing connected, and it still cycles until... watch the video:yes:

Help :)

the antenna was secure and is made to pop off there is a connector there
also how do you make youtube videos instead of white square appear

Is the antenna damaged in any way? I'm just thinking the shield is somehow shorting against the center conductor. Also, do you know if there is a loading coil in the antenna mast? If that is damaged, it could cause problems...

e-rev project 09.15.2009 10:37 PM

there is one squished spot,(prob it) other than that looks clean. Sometimes by pushing on the surrounding area the same result, a drop in voltage but it stays on, not always though, like when i pull the antenna off. if the loading coil would be in the antenna def not there, other than that not sure
thanks for the quick reply

Sounds like the antenna is the culprit...

e-rev project 09.15.2009 11:19 PM

long shot but is that a common plug for antenna, isn't it the same as a wifi antenna?
