Another XT8 09Spec Brushless Conversion

Been lurking here awhile, absorbing as much as I could.

Ordered some parts from RC monster, and the adventure begun!

Called in reinforcements! Had my old bud Woody help me build shocks, and turnbuckles!! It's a plus that he's also grass root sponsored by Xray.

The kit was flawless, no weird flashings, or mold errors. It basically fell together. It's ALOT lighter than the XT8 08 and sports a truckload of hop ups.

Woody doing his thing

Front and Rear end finished sans suspension. How many brushless motors do you see?

The CVD(s) and all the shafts are BLING. Hard Anodized and HUDY Steel silk screened on all of them

Center Diff and RC Monster Mount in. Mounted up a brand spanking new 2200kv Castle/Neu

Losi Battery Tray installed. On the 09 Chassis, I only had to drill and countersink one hole! vs 4 on the 08. Was able to mount the battery as close to centerline as possible, with the longer chassis.

Broke the diffs in, on the front road. Ran a 4s with 16/48 gearing. Diffs are buttery smooth. Running 7000/30000/7000 in the diffs. I have a spare center diff running 10k.

It got too dark, so I'll charge up my batteries.. and head out to little mountain tomorrow!

Build time was about 9hrs.
E-Conversion time about 1.5hrs.

First...welcome to RCM! Nice build. x-Ray kits are top notch. Even 10K in the center diff may be a tad light...I am running 20K in the center of my mbx-5T

Welcome.

firtsly got to welcome you here. Nice conversion :) I am running same truggy with tekin on 5s. I understood you had 2008 spec xt8 before. Therefore good and bad news to you

2009 is better to drive, jumps just smoothly, runs light and agile, you will love it's performance and less weigth.
however it comes with a price and that is reliability, I've been broking stuff since I got it, ackerman/rearhubs and driveshafts keep coming out despite locktite I am using to hold screws in place.

well xt8 is not a tank anymore, both in agility and reliability, but I guess it's still worth upgrade and if you won't give it complete hell, it will serve you well

i just got a XT8 2007 model is it a tank?

speedslave 09.07.2009 05:09 PM

Took it out for a bit today. I liked the 30k in the center, felt planted.
But liked to catwalk when it had traction.. would 20K be better?

jhautz 09.08.2009 11:35 PM

Great looking truck.:intello:

I run 7/7/3 in my xt8'09 for the track. I was running 10 in the center, but found that with the 7 I can just point and shoot and it stays going the direction I point it better. If you have alot of traction 10 may be better. For bashing only go a little heavier in the center, maybe 15. 30 is way to heavy for anything except wheelies IMO. Of course wheelies can be fun too. :mdr:

speedslave 09.08.2009 11:55 PM

Im gunna scoop out the 30k, and try 10...
and go from there..

With the 30k it also felt a little snakey in the straights.. if that makes sense.

kalbien 09.09.2009 04:14 AM

Well I am running 7/20/7 with slipperential in middle - that was HUGE change in behaving of my truggy.
But I got 4 separate diffs and swaping them to find out which I like most... running mostly on very high traction track and for that it's optimal for me. - but bare in mind, we all have differend hands and heads, just try what suits you best

Thanks Guys!
Going to head out again this week and weekend.
Now that I got the hang of the power! Should be even sicker jumps and I'll break out my brushless buggy as well!

Forgefeu 09.17.2009 04:43 AM

Hi,
Wich grade of shock oil do you use plz ?

forg.

speedslave 09.17.2009 08:44 PM

Losi 45wt all 4 corners

Forgefeu 09.18.2009 06:07 AM

Hello,

Thx for your answer.
I don't understand, i have an higher grade of oil and when my xt8 make lower jumps than you, the chassis hit the floor.
I have just ordered stiffer spring, i hope it will be better.
