Lipo Balance Wire Configuration Question ??
My Buddy just received (2) 4s Turnigy 5000mah 30-40C and we tried to charge them but the chargers will only allow charging in non balance mode ? After some trouble shooting I've found all cells to have 3.85 volts per cell but neither of my chargers or seperate balancer will recognize the one cell at all ?
The balance tab has a somewhat questionable connection due to the little metal ends being a tick loose inside the plastic plug but wiggleing the ends still will not register with the balancer. Do the wires look to be in the correct order or could there be a wire swapped around ? I'm not real sure what to check next, Please help !? BOTH packs have this same problem ! http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...9130004_01.jpg http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...9130002_01.jpg http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...z/P9130003.jpg |
Small Update/Better Explaination;
The pack will charge but the #2 cell refuses to be recognized and if I restart the charge again while moving the balance wires the charger only recognizing the #2 cell. WTF ? Obvisously the problem lies in the balance leads I'm just stumped on what to look for next or what wires need rearranged ?? Lost ?? |
Can anyone enlighten me on the problem, or at least tell me I'm stoopid ?

Do you have a voltmeter? If not go buy one, even the 2.99 harbor freight voltmeter is a good purchase (I have 3 and use them all daily!). You need to determine if there is a break in cell #2 balance wiring. Easiest way is to set the voltmemter for continuity (2k ohm setting is fine) and put one probe on each end of the wire (tap end and the cell end) if the voltmemter drops to zero you have continuity and their is some other problem. If it does not drop you have a broken wire. You may also have a bad connector on the balance tap, if so you may need to remove it from the while plug and adjust its shape.

Thanks for chiming in Linc, A sound suggestion. I never thought to check for a bad wire, I'll give it a shot and see what I come up with. I've previously had all the pins out and all the metal ends seem to be secure and snap into the plug well, they just wiggle a tick.
Thanx |
Well, I managed to figure it out and repair it. None of the wires were bad it was all in the balance plug. All metal ends on the wires were fine it was having to do with how they fit in the plastic plug and there was a connection problem between the metal ends and the balancer plug ? The way it was acting really threw me for a loop ?
I had rummaged around in my treasure drawers and luckily found (2) 4s balance tabs w/wire ends from old MaxCramps packs that gave up the ghost. Soldered them and good to go. Thanks for everyones help and concern and the faith you had in me to figure it out on my own. I get ignored at home too,no surprise. |
