Got My New Setup Running!!!
First let me thank everyone that gave me info and answered questions on my other posts.
I got My E-Maxx built and running finally. This is what I put in it just for backround: Wanderer 8xl Warrior 9920 with cooling fan Ultimate BEC Strobe slipper with 18/51 gears FLM aluminum 2 speed tranny with steel idlers UE titainium driveshafts and cups UE 6mm steel CVDs with boots FLM hybrid bulkheads Ofna 6 spyder diffs FLM aluminum chassis braces FLM shock towers FLM control arms Hitec HSC-5955 steering servo -- UE servo saver is ordered Traxxas big bore shocks 20 IB 4200 mah cells Revo wheels and tires Airtronics MX-3S controller Aluminum wheelie bar Rubber sealed bearings everywhere I took it out for the first time today after work. Tried it with 20/51 gearing first. Crazy insane fast!!! At 1/3 trigger pull it is way faster than a stock maxx on great 14 cell bats. Then it started cogging bad after 5-6 mins. I found the motor and controller way too hot. Changed to 18/51 gears. Performance about the same but must be gentle on the trigger or the front tires never touch the ground. When its going 15-20mph in second gear and I floor it it will pull a wheelie for around 30-40 ft. Basically untill I let off. I can't even come close to top speed by my house due to cars and curbs but tomorrow after work I'm gonna stop at the park and see what it will do. Mike said that the 20/51 would get it over 60mph so I'm hoping that the 18/51 will get around 50-55mph. My batteries lasted the whole time I was running today testing it out, about 20-25 mins and still were going strong when I decided to stop. Damn good I think. Is thermal cogging normal with the 8xl 9920 combo if they get too hot? |
Sounds Great! We need video!
I burned my 9920. I think it was do to binding. Make sure it rolls really easily and keep a close watch on the temps! Good luck bro. :027: |
An 8XL on 20cells is pretty insane stuff. Sounds like your gonna have a lot of fun with that.
|
sounds nice and it sounds like you are going to have a lot of fun with it. Do you have any pics of it
|
I would like to see pics and video to. I want to build almost the same setup!
btw where did you get a cooling fan? |
Not trying to hijack the thread here, but I run a Torpedo Chassis, 7XL, 16 IB3800 cells, UE diffs, 40series ROad Rage tire, 18/51 gearing. The batts are fresh so they may need a cycle or 2 or 3 on them but I got it radared by my friend, cop, and all it pulled was 33mph. I almost cried. I managed 37mph with a 9L on 14cells geared 14/51, but this thing is a beast compared to the 9L. I dont know whats up. I'm gonna try the same setup another time but with the another cop's radar.
Sorry to but in here. Any pics of ya truck in progress? Are you running the stock chassis? |
Something sounds wrong with that nitro starter, any binding in the drivetrain, or it could just simply be the batts need a few cycles.
|
*to Nitrostarter*
Yeh, sounds like either a battery problem or maybe a programming/radio issue. Have you tried reprogramming the controller? Might help if you havn't. |
Those batts need a few cycles to start to wake up. Start there first - also check for binding, bearings, gear mesh etc.

on a 8xl and 20 cells I not sure I would run a 18 51 gearing. JMO
I had 20 on a 9xl and it got warm on 16 51 gearing. 9xl on 20 51 gearing thermaled my esc to. |
I took it to the park today. Oh my! Did at least 50mph and I had to be gentle getting there cause it will wheelie at around 30mph if I gun it. Have to slowly roll the power on. I can easily get away with 14 cells for bashing around as 20 is just for showing off. Is it possible to have too much power??? LOL I got the cooling fan off a 540 motor heatsink by gpm I got off Ebay for $5. I Am gonna try and list a few pics I just took today after running it so it might look a bit dirty. (was raining this morning) I can take video but I don't know how or where to get it hosted. I can't send it right to this site can I?

I use the straps to hold the 3rd battery on top of the 2 main batteries. I'm still thinking if I should go with an aluminum chassis...... Which would you guys say is a good one? I like the protection the stock one give the electronics thats why I still use it. I saw the Hardcore Racing aluminum tub chassis and it is basically the same as stock but aluminum but it is $165 and I don't feel like spending that if I don't NEED it. I want one that will protect the expensive stuff up top from water/dirt.

Get a gorilla chassis, would look better, and will probably hold 20 cells better.
