I'm kinda partial to ACE servos. Built well and have outlasted other "brand name" servos (Futaba and Hitec), and cost less than those brands for the same specs...

Ok, so the short answer to your question is no, its not a good single steering servo. It's low torque, a brand nobody has really ever heard of, and at only 8 bucks, your gonna get 8 bucks worth of running out it.
For a single, your going to need 200- 250 oz-in of torque. Otherwise, your better off running the stock setup.

no one has heard of tower pro? :gasp:

mistercrash 09.18.2009 08:29 PM

Yes I have read about Tower Pro servos from airplane guys, they hate them. Bad centering, not that strong, premature wobble of death. That is for the 995. The new 996 is supposed to be better and those issues are supposed to be gone so I ordered two from HC and will see if they are any good. The 995 Tower Pro or Toward Pro has they are also labeled as are supposed to have a purple stickers on them. That servo you linked has no sticker on it and is referred to as a ''T Pro''. What is T Pro? Never heard of that one. I heard of Tower Pro and you seem to think the one you linked is one but I say it's not. Looks like a Turd Pro to me.

Cheap & cheerful is a rare thing....

Some of the digital servos hobbycity sell are said to be better, and they still cost a lot less than brand-name items, but you're gonna have to pay a bit more of a realistic price- I believe $50-70 for a good hi-torque model. Believe me though, thats a great price unless you want to get something like a pair of analogue servos to use instead- try ebay for hitec hs645mgs; pair of those for $60 will net you around 250 in/oz od torque, enough to turn the wheels on most MTs, but you will have mounting issues in a 1/8 scale I reckon...

BrianG 09.18.2009 09:31 PM

You can either get a couple $8 servos (+ shipping) and replace them in a short time, or get a decent servo right off the bat (and has LHS support). Either way, you're gonna pay for it. The decision becomes "Do I buy right once and save money, or buy wrong and end up spending more in the long run?".

BTW: the MSRP price on those ACE servos is about 20% higher than the actual selling price. I use the DS1313 in my XT8 truggy and it works just fine torque/speed wise.

those 995's are junk i had 2 of them and they got loose as a goose rather quickly

big greg 09.18.2009 09:37 PM

acually look on ebay for some good used airtronics servos. the 94358 and 94359 servos are pretty good, i run em in my truggy and they last a while, they can be had for around 30-40 bucks
