rEvo conversion, 3905 tranny, geared 17/65, 17mm talons, traxxas stock CD
Turnigy 6s 5000mah 30C pack

put as much power down as i could without wheeling or unloading the front too much.
need to pull more amps to get real data for you guys but this is just an idea of what we are dealing with.
more data when i hot up the setup more, comments and vs against high end packs welcome!!

Compare the 20C Version of this cell to the 30C version of the same cell.

I believe they are the same! :yes:

They BOTH are the same size and weight. The 30C shows a few grams heavier, but those packs come with 8Ga. wires instead of 10Ga. wires.

I've suspected this for awhile now. I have an Eagletree graph of the 20C cells.

Here's how your graph and it lines up:

30C = 3.6 volt per cell average under a 71 amp load
20C = 3.59 volt per cell average under a 113 amp load

The Graph I have is a 3S pack.

Granted there are some difference in the two graphs, but pack temperature/cycle age...etc. will make results vary.

They appear to be the same cell, in size, weight and performance.

So, are you saying their current 30C and 20C packs are actually the same? Or do you mean the current 30C are the same as the older 20C?

I believe their Current 20C AND 30C packs are the same and are built from the same cells.

I run 4S in my E Revo. I have both 20C and 30C Turnigy Packs and I can't tell ANY difference in the two as far as how they perform.

i always thought this as the 20c packs perform as good as they do, then you look at the other ones and they are the same dimensions, makes sense. i told people they were wastiong there money on the 30c packs lol

Hmm, I wonder why they have different labels then (aside from the obvious reason; to make more money over nothing)? Maybe the 30C cells are matched better, so they deem them safer for higher C rates? I would doubt it's because of the 8GA wire, but who knows.

The first Batch of Turnigy 2S 5000mah packs that was delivered from the factory was labeled 15C.

There was alot of confusion over this, and alot of people asked questions since HC was telling everyone they were really 20C cells.

One of the HC staff said that Turnigy only ran one type of slurry, and when the order was mistakenly made for 15C, they just labeled the packs 15C and shipped them. LOL

He said one batch of slurry was enough to produce 20,000 or 30,000 packs.

I believe they have an impressive formula and they are covering alot of market with it with varying prices.

was testing out the old zippy-H 6s 20-30c today for comparrison.

Ok.. So by the looks of this... We save ourselves $40 and just get the 20c packs right? I'm so glad I stumbled across this thread, as I'm thinking of switching up to 6s for my buggy and truggy...

Got six of those packs here. On the forum they clarified they actually were 20C packs with a 30C burst. I've been using them in mijn Rustler VXL and Savage Flux for quite some time now and they perform really good. They are not even getting warm!

As far as the 'same packs go'. It does make sense to grade the same cells under different labels because they can therefore charge more for a 'premium 30C' pack.

Going to track this thread as I'm planning on buying me some 5S Turnigy's.

Zippy-H 20-30C 5000mah

both under racing conditions, amazingly we didn't get much more than 45 amps from racing!!
so finding real load to test how well these packs go under heavy load might be harder than it looks!!

The Zippy's seem to perform a very little bit less, but not by that big of a margin (but you probably have run these packs more often then the Turnigy pack). I'm planning on buying myself a 5S in the short term and am kinda playing with the idea to get a 20C pack for my 1515 1y and MMM.

I'm a bit confused I guess. You are running the MMM combo which requires, or at least people / CC / HPI advise, to run with at least 120A continues battery delivery correct? And from racing, where the loads are probably higher than some random bashing, the loads don't even touch 50A, or did you gear it down a lot ?

well the data is generic so it's irrelevant to setup...but ANYWAY.
both are revo's.
turnigy revo (converted 2.5 with CD) is mine, geared for 45mph with a MMM 2200 combo, this was first race on the pack, hasnt even been "broken in" yet

zippy-H revo is a converted platty, MMM + medusa 70mm 2000kv, the pack has about 4-5 hours runtime on it.
geared for 40mph
both have 3905 E-maxx trannies but the 2.5 has a crappy traxxas CD.

i actually cracked the chassis on mine today :whistle: i did land pretty hard and pulled somer serious G's:lol:

I run the 5000 20c packs in my E-revo with MMM/2200 and they perform well.I'm on 4s geared for around 45..

I could be wrong here, but I believe the magic 120A rating CC recommends is simply an easy way to help noobs pick batteries without them having to worry about all the technical jargon. I feel that as long as the battery can deliever whatever current is required by a specific setup without excessive voltage drop, then they will be fine. CC is probably banking on the assumption that if a battery manufacturer says their battery can deliver 120A, then it will do so without stress. There lies the problem though; can said battery really do that, or is it just optimistic (and maybe unrealistic) rating? Or, maybe it can deliver 120A, but will drop to 3.1v/cell. In my subjective opinion, a battery should be able to deliver its rated current at no lower than 3.5v/cell over 75-80% of its cycle, with no more than 20-25*F above ambient temps (or 120*F, which ever comes first).

As far as usage goes, generally, racers have much more throttle control and so are easier on the WOT starts and heavy stops. Bashers running in grass and/or doing wheelies/backflips and jamming on the brake is harder on batteries.
