Hybrid Bulks... Again
Hi guys.
First time post here, sorry for this thread I have looked at the other Hybrid Threads but I still have some questions. First of all let me admit I know nothing about diffs, fairly new to the hobby, so if these questions are stupid I apologise. I have a E-Maxx 3905 with the FLM Chassis, MMM Combo running 4S. I have the hybrids on order but just realised that the 1/8 scale diffs are nearly all 43/10,11,13. At the moment with the stock emaxx diffs I'm running a 64 Spur 22 Pinion and I like the speed I'm getting, no heat problems or anything so that set-up works for me. If I want that kind of speed with the 1/8 diffs I'd have to gear a lot lower and I dont want to, well not to the low extent I'd have to go. So what I'm wondering is are there any 1/8 diffs that has a gearing more like the stock emaxx or erevo gearing 37/13. Another thing I read in other threads that not all 1/8 diffs fit the FLM Hybrid Bulk so which ones do? Thanks guys. |
Pretty much all 1/8 scale diffs are a lower gear ratio. I dont know of any that are the same as stock t-maxx. You need to gear higher if you want to retain the same speeds. Example bigger pinnion or smaller spur. What the big deal about changing those gears Its not the expensive or hard especially compared to buying and setting up a set of 1/8 scale hybrids. I am sure flm website can tell you all the differnt diffs that work with there hybrids.

Hey.
There no real big deal in changing the gears but I'd just prefer not to change it too much, like going from a 64 to a 50. |
If you go to the buggy ratio diffs (43/13) you will have to go to a 26t pinion to retain the same overall gearing/speed that you have now.
Or go to a 62 spur and a 25t pinion. you need about 2.5:1 reduction on the primary (spur/pinion) gearset to get the same as what you have now with the traxxas diffs. Only thing I would consider is do you have enough clearance to fit that gear combo, will the motor adjust enough? You could also go down to the 58t jato spur and run a 23t pinion. Just divide the spur tooth count by 2.5 to get the pinion size you need. |
I havn't actually looked to see if I have clearance for the 25t pinion, I reckon I do, got the traxxas single motor mount and using a 22t at the moment and I think there was plenty room.
Yeah I suppose 58/25 wouldn't be so bad, not like I'm going to have a choice lol. Anyone know what the difference in the Hot Bodies Lightning and Lightning Pro is? I know the Pro is 43/10, whats the non Pro. I think the Ofna Hypers are 43/13 too. thanks lincpimp |
Non-pro diffs are 43/13 too- its best to use this version rather than the pro as the pros obviously lower your overall ratio by quite a fair bit, meaning you need a seriously small spur or huge pinion to get the correct overall ratio.
Its well worth picking up 2 or 3 pinions though to experiment with your ratios- 18, 20, 24 for example is a nice spread, and combined with several of the cheap spurs you can fine tune your ratios very... finely. |
Sweet, thanks guys.

I recognize that shell- Jconcepts Tango 3.3?
Can you measure the wheel base on it for me pretty please (center of front wheel well to center of rear wheel well). |
That truck looks familer whats your name on the trx forum.

Cheers for that. I asked them when the emaxx 3905 came out if they had any plans for a slightly longer version of the tango (which would be ideal for my gorillamaxx), and they said they were working on one- that was years ago....
I think the wheel base on my maxx is 14 inches, so it would need a lot of hacking to make the shell fit saddly- shame, as its a really beasty looking thing. |
Yeah its a pity because it is very nice shell. I have the Jconcept wing on order so looking forward to seeing what it looks like with the shell.

Yeah I know you as Supermaxx, you actually answered my question about the Hybrid Bulks over there, your using the Hyper diffs. I did look on ebay for them but couldn't really find any, well none that will ship to Ireland. Also I was seeing the Hyper 7/8 were all Pro and wasnt sure if they were different to the normal Hyper 7/8 and any of the Lightning I could find were all Pro aswell, so was not having the best of luck. |
The hyper 7/8/8.5 diffs (pro or rtr) have all the same gearing, 43/13. I have a bunch of them which I used on all my trucks.
