MGM users please help ?

Programming issue. mgm22418 I don't have the unicard or pc use at this time so I am stuck with the controller, It is a DX3R.
It seems all is good except from neutral to brake. it seems to speed up before applying brake. Once rolliing, If I hit brake brake brake it speeds up up up.
If I hold brake it will eventually apply brake but takes a few seconds.
It does not do this if I am at very very low speeds (like crawling). Once I get rolling fast enough to actually need brakes when I apply and hold brake it "bursts" forward (Just a quick instant) and then slows down.

It is in an ERevo with a NEU 15151y

Any Ideas ?

Mine did that too. The controller isn't up to the challenge IMO.

Worked for me better when I switched to mechanical brakes, but it still didn't work like I expected it to.

I'd sell it and get a MMM or MMpro when they become available.

You could also try to call MGM (sounds weird) they ARE helpful people and the owner speaks english.

Good luck.

The kicker for me is when I plug in a 15152.5d motor , all is good.
Thanks for the tip.
I somehow thought it could be something with a radio setting I'm not familiar with.

I sold both of my big MGM ESCs and good thing I did. It seems the MGM ESCs dosn't work that well with 2.4G radios. All my MGM did and my 80A still does that. Here is a video of the exact problem you have:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/3vhwidRhTMI&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/3vhwidRhTMI&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Could it be a problem with the ESC not able to control the Y wound motors? In that video, the MGM I was using was powering a 1521/1Y.

That is what it does. I have had the system for a while now but have always run it using mechanical brakes.
I will try calling them for some input.
Thanks for chiming in

Let Mr. Grisa know it only happens with Y wound motors and not the D wound ones.

That's odd, I never had that trouble w. the 2Y I had w. mine. I have a 1100kv medusa now, and it doesn't have any issues either. I have no idea what yours is doing. That's def not normal.

Both of mine were with a futaba 2.4ghz also.

What do you have the timing set to? Did you do the auto tune?
It does sound like some sort or phase sensing issue.

lutach 10.02.2009 11:08 AM

Forgot to ask if you have the new ESCs or is it the older ones with the older version of the software? If so, send it back to MGM to get an updated one.

Finnster 10.02.2009 02:50 PM

With the 2Y I had the older sw. I ordered in in 2007, so whatever version was current then. The only prob I had was sometimes if I went from WOT to neutral, there would be a brief brake stab. I fiddled w/ neutral range and all sorts of things before I got it worked out. Eventually shelved the Revo I had it in for a truggy and sold the 2Y off for a 2.5D. Kept the esc tho and had it updated.

This is completely gone in the current version I have on there now. However I've only used the Medusa with it. I sold the 2Y off a long time ago. The current sw is quite a bit better.

It is like 2 years old.
I did try auto tune.
Automatic timing.

I tried the phone thing but his english was so broken he asked me to e-mail him. Waiting for a reply.

I'll keep "fiddling" :gasp:

Thanks for your responses, I appreciate all the help.

What is the version number? (little square sticker)

tmaxxdaddy 10.02.2009 10:17 PM

This is what my sticker looks like

TMM22418-3s EXP
CAR/BOAT WP 6v
2-6 lipo /6/18 nixx /224A/s BEC

My book says for versions 3.14 and more

Finnster 10.02.2009 10:30 PM

That's the old version. Really you are best off sending it to MGM to get updated. The later updates allow you to do usb updates if you have the usbcom. Well worth it as the SW solved a number of quirks and is smoother driving overall. It should take about 2-3wks for the turnaround.

On the opposite side of the esc from that sticker is a much smaller tiny square with a version number; what does it say?
