differential spool & battery ????
hey guys are there any advantages to using a spool in the rear? also, are the tenergy batteries any good?
|
Advantages.
Yes and no. The whole spool issue is mainly so one does not have to deal with broken or stripped diff gears. It eliminates the reason for having a diff in the first place, which is for one wheel to be able to slip/spin while the other powers through whatever obstacle you may be encountering. It changes the handling feel of your vehicle quite a bit as well. THey can be useful in some applications, and yet cause issues on others. A spool is clearly one of those user frinedly choices one has to figure out for himself. For some it is just much easier to deal with, because it is very simple and easy to install. Some people are less mechanically inclined and find it difficult to build a complete diff.

thanks for the info.i'll probably just leave that out of my truck.does anybody know about the tenergy batteries?also, are the vantage carbon fiber cvd's any good?thanks

The only reason to run a spool is too get more wheelies. Your turning will be much worse (one wheel MUST slip for your truck to be able to turn a corner).
I've had two trucks that had spools installed by previous owners, and both of them broke - so IMHO, they are not as reliable as a standard diff. Spend your money on aluminum diff housing and carrier - those alone will give you a 10 fold increase in lifespan on your gears. |
The Tenergy Nimhs had a very poor reputation, but the Tenergy lipos seem to be quite good, only caveat is the 2S packs are 4 cell/paralleled which is not ideal, they have more of a chance to go out of balance. Friend of mine has two of the 25C 2S 5200 packs and they are very punchy.. I have two 2200 3S 25C packs and they are also very good.
As for the spool, the biggest problem I have had, if one wheel becomes locked (rock jammed into wheel) then there is no relief, and you risk mangling driveshafts. |
hey thanks guys for the info on the spool and batteries.will leave the spool alone and the tenergy batts. my next question is which center cvd's are better?rdlogics or vantage
