new savage flux

hi all,
Just got my brand new flux today. I opened it up and parts of the bumper, chassis, and other areas have a nice slick coat of oil. Is this normal from the shipping or should I seriously check for leaks? btw, I'm new to the hobby.

it's normal. my nitro savage had the same thing. if you don't have the batteries and charger yet, hobbycity.com is the best place to look. the $35 turnigy charger is great and is what i use. it is very good for lipo batteries and ni-mh batteries alike. be sure to get the 5a 12v power supply for it too if you plan on plugging it into a wall. without the power supply, you will need to use a car battery or another 12v source to use it. the lipo batteries on that website are great and work great. you should get either two 2s 5000mah 30c turnigy packs, or two 3s 5000mah 20-30c turnigy packs. the 2s packs will the truck more powerful than ony nitro out there, and the 3s packs will turn your savage into an unstoppable beast.

First of all,

READ, READ READ, READ SOME MORE THEN MAYBE A HEALTHY DOSE OF READING.

These trucks aren't exactly an "entry level" rc, there is a lot to learn about lipo's and brushless in general. Please post up what you are running for batteries, charger, balancer yada yada yada.

The oil you found is most likely from the shocks, check all of them as this is a known issue.

Apart from that, congrats on the purchase! These trucks are a ton of fun and mine has been through hell and back and just keeps asking for more(and by more I mean money). Just ordered an extended chassis today. Any questions about it, don't be afraid to ask.

The esc's have been known to melt down running on 6s lipo before, however 95% of the time it is from improper use/set up. People don't understand that these are high-performance rc's and need to be properly maintained.

In what area's did you find oil? If its near the front and rear diffs, the stock oil is very light and leaks through the diffs, mine was the same way outa the box. I took the diffs out and filled them with a thicker oil, 100k. If its near the shocks, is likely a loose or broken shock fitting somewhere. Those are the only two places that would have oil leaks.

If your new to this, especially to brushless and Lipo, I would highly suggest reading this threads to prevent destroying your Lipos and or melting your ESC

I will see what I can do, the savage is going to get a bit of a freshening while it's cold outside. Maybe find a permanent solution to the bumper brace issue. I hate having all those zip ties all over it.

Freezebyte thanks for all the links for reference. I'd like to run everything stock for now with two 2s lipos. What mah and C ratings should I be looking for?

As high as you can afford. Go no lower then 25C rating, that comes from both HPI and Castle Creations. Cheap lipo's are Flux killers.

Just a note, I don't think the OP is stupid but gotta point it out, I would run no lower than 5000mah 25C lipo's. 2500mah 25C for example would be looking for trouble.
